As I write this, there are a little less than 75 hours remaining in the kickstarter campaign to fund the White Flour book. Here's where we are:
• $29,336 pledged of $18,500 goal
• 3 days to go
• 158% of the original goal
• 75.2% of the book bills that will come due in the next six weeks or so
Tonight I will drive to Raleigh and pick up the forty paintings that will appear in the book, and I will take them to the professional scanners in Apex tomorrow morning, then we lay out the text and off they go to the printers. So exciting!
And speaking of exciting, at the bottom of this note is a photo of the cover painting. What do you think? Me? I love it.
Yesterday I got these lovely lines in my inbox from one of my favorite storytellers, Donald Davis:
"David LaMotte has captured a poetic event in a poetic way! His story models for us a new way we can learn to respond to fear and evil. His book can serve to inoculate readers against their own responses of frustration and point them toward better choices. The poem is simply marvelous!"
Now I'm dialing in details of exactly how the 12,500 books will be shipped to North Carolina, how exactly we're pitching the publicity (can you believe that the publicity effort still hasn't started, and there's this much buzz already?!), etc. It's such a joy to do this work when there is so much energy behind it.
This project has taken on such a powerful life of its own, far beyond the work I've been doing on it. That's because *you* have given your energy to it as well, in the form of financial backing, excitement and sharing it with friends. Thank you for all of that!
Here we come into the home stretch...
