2010 PhotoMosaic Calendar
Project by Dave LeCompte
Project by Dave LeCompte
I'm looking to fill 2010 with all sorts of good things. Well, lots of photos, anyway.
I'm going to create 12 unique photomosaic images for a 2010 calendar. Photomosaics take one large picture and lots and lots of smaller pictures, and assemble the small pictures to look like the big one. You may have seen this in puzzles with lots of frames from The Simpsons or Mickey Mouse that form together to make one big picture of Homer or Mickey.
In my calendar, I'm going to collect 12 major themes and many more minor themes as a structure for my 12 mosaics. I will then collect images, largely through Creative Commons sources, that fit those themes. The major theme for February might be Valentines, let's say. Other themes might be Black History Month, National Cherry Month, International Friendship Month, National Embroidery Month, and so on.
Once I collect the thematic photos for the month, I'll assemble them (using fancy photomosaic software that I have written already) and create a calendar project on Lulu.com, which I have used for other print-on-demand projects.
I'm looking to you not only for funding, but also for participation. At the "tile contributor" pledge level, I'll use a photo that you provide (subject to approval - nothing copyrighted, nothing offensive) in one of the mosaics. At the "month patron" pledge level, you get to decide one of the themes for one of the months. Maybe you really believe that July ought to be recognized as National Ice Cream Month.
Thanks, and have a happy 2010!

I write computer games and console games for a living, and my spare time projects range from computer games (creating and consuming) to puzzles (I've written a series of kakuro puzzle books, available now) to supporting local theatre to social dance.
