Online Store

Update #14 · Nov 26, 2010 · 12 comments

Hello friends,

Today we launched our online store at www.theglif.com. We created this for a couple reasons:

- For anyone who missed out on the Kickstarter campaign, or
- Anyone that wanted to order multiple quantities.

Rest assured, this has no effect on your orders as a Kickstarter backer. We are fulfilling your orders first. You guys are the reason we're here!

Regarding when you will receive your Glifs, we are working against some very tight timelines but still believe you will receive them before Christmas, at least for domestic orders. As always, we will keep you informed of any updates in the future!

We're really happy with how the injection molded Glifs turned out and we can't wait for you guys to have them.

Cheers,
Tom & Dan

Hey there...Oops...I just realized that I just went in for the 50$ without noticing the extra 8$ for international shipping. Since I'm in Sweden I would still love to get it shipped here.
      Advice on fixing the balance?

@ Keith Robertson - That's correct, totally based on shipping times.

Great product, communications, etc. Can you think a little about the phrase 'domestic'. I dont live in the US so I feel a better phrase might be US customers, European customers, etc. I'm still amused at some Internet users idea that the Internet stops at the US border :-).

I also hope the reasons your US customers might be the only ones to get their Glifs before Christmas is because of the difference it takes to ship elsewhere and not because you are favouring one set of Kickstarters over another? Looking forward very much to getting mine thought!

@ Razman Sarit - You already filled out the survey, you're good!

@ Benoit Simeray - That's a fair point. The last thing we want to do is leave a bitter taste for our backers. Those who supported us on Kickstarter will be getting their Glifs first, without question. Also, our domestic backers on Kickstarter get free shipping, an added benefit of pledging early. We've thought a lot about pricing, and feel that $20 is right. But, obviously, we are new at this and will be listening to the market to see if we need to make a change in the future. Thanks for you comments.

@ Dino Ubaili - shipping in 2-3 weeks.

@ David Olson - That's correct, the injection molded Glif is made of a rubbery material that is more forgiving than the plastic 3D print. I tested the Glif with the Zagg Invisible Shield and it was able to fit without disturbing the film. That may not be true with all protective films but it seemed to work just fine with that one.

You guys are setting a great example for good customer service and communication. I'm not bothered by seeing the same price online as we early supporters are paying. The market for such devices is a stronger determinant of price, and knowing we have had an opportunity to help you get this off the ground is worth a lot to me, and hopefully others.

I can't tell right away from looking at www.theglif.com if S&H is extra, so maybe that's where non-kickstarters will pay a bit more?

Anywho, I'm more interested in you creating the next product: a Glif for the 4th generation iPod Touch!

As a backer, I don't mind the store price being the same as the price I paid to back the project. The premium we gained from backing the project was in getting it made in the first place.

Through our backing, we've helped to get it made while showing that there's a big demand for such a product. That's enough premium for me. Keeping a steady and affordable price also makes it more likely to continue to sell, which means the company can thrive and evolve and develop more products, presumably.

Would I have paid $30 in a store for this? Probably not. $20 is the perfect tipping point for a product like this--enough to make some profit, but affordable enough to convince someone on the fence about buying one.

The FAQ in the online store says the Glif should work as intended with a screen protector, but the prototype did not work on my phone with a film covering the front and the back. The film won't slide and wrinkles and lifts when you push it in the groove. Maybe it works better if only one side is covered, or you changed the dimensions on the final product. Glad you checked it out and provided an answer to this question.

      Dear Dan&Tom,

I think you are making a mistake by selling the glif online at the same price your backers will be charged for a single item.

This gives a bit of a bitter taste as there is no real premium for all the people who backed you through kickstarter.

Plus commercially i believe that you could have afforded to sell the glif at an higher price online. probably closer to 30USD.

For those 2 reasons, you should just raise the SRP online.
