3D printed prototypes are shipping!
Hey everyone!
Well, it's been a busy last few days, filled with prototype assembly, printing labels, packaging, etc... but we have started shipping the 3D printed prototypes to our $50 (and above) backers! We hope you guys love 'em. We shipped out a small batch at the end of last week and will be shipping out the bulk of them this week.
We made a little time lapse video of some of the process, which you can view below (shot on an iPhone 4 with a Glif, of course). We used soldering irons to essentially melt the brass tripod thread into the plastic Glif piece, so it's nice and secure.
We are flying to South Dakota at the end of next week to review the first injection molded Glif as it rolls off the assembly line. Our baby is being born! We'll be taking lots of photos and video so stay tuned for that. If things go as planned, production will take about 2 weeks, and we will be ready to begin shipping by early December.
And a reminder, if you haven't filled out the survey yet, please do. It's the only way for us to get your mailing address. When logged in to Kickstarter, if you haven't filled out the survey there should be a banner up top that says "Action Needed! The Glif needs some information from you." You can access the survey from there.
That's it for now, thanks for everything!

My (proto) GLIF has not made it to me yet. Is there a tracking number or anything for this? I would love to take it on my trip next week.
Creator Gary Greco on November 18, 2010
My prototype package arrived today. Great work! The excitement from those I showed it to should build a bit more traffic to your site. Thanks so much for going the extra mile!

To those asking about the app, we used Gorillacam to take photos on a timer, then imported into Adobe After Effects to assemble the video. If anyone knows of a great timelapse app that can assemble the video on the fly, let me know, I'd love to try one out.

The 3D printed Glif arrived, looks great, but as I feared, it will not work if you have a screen protector like invisibleshield on the phone. It peels the skin right off. Tough choice to make.
Creator Ned Carleton on November 15, 2010
An assembly process measured in brew and chips consumption is A-OK with me. Let me know when you're hiring. I'll work for the bennies!

WHO took the EXCELLENT photos you used in your KICKSTARTER request? That made it very easy to donate (as I did) or purchase in advance. Whoever did it and worked out all the views did an excellent job and I'd like them to photograph some things for my website if they have time and would like to earn some money. So happy for you that things have turned out so phenomenally. You guys are the new Apple add-ons, me thinks! Fantastico! Sincerely, CatherineTodd2 at gmail dot com.
