"Ezayah's Silouettes-Distant Storms are Brewing", A Book inspired by an artist duel solo exhibition on June 10, 2004 Miami ,Florida.

Just beyond a mountain side in a small town far away lived a small girl and her mother. It’s now been exactly two years since this young girl and her mother have lived alone together. Their house was built on the highest hill which overlooked the entire town just below. The girl’s name was Ezayah. Ezayah went to school, did her chores and dreamed of better things just as all the other boys and girls did. Her mother was a sincere and caring young woman. Ezayah’s mother loved Ezayah very much and just like Ezayah she also dreamt of better things. Their house was typical in likeness to all the houses in the town. The house was made from the stone found around the town’s outer edges, which intersected the surrounding mountains. The house had two floors and a chimney. Ezayah’s room was located on the second floor. Since her room faced the Northern side of the house, it also had a view of the entire town just below. If you would to stand in front of Ezayh’s window, an extraordinary sense of beauty and serenity would easily take your breath away. During a typical day, cotton like clouds would spread across the horizon. The clouds could be seen touching each infinite arrangement of mountaintops. These mountaintops were of such diversity that attempting to count each and every one of them would be pointless. If your eyes were to scroll down making their way closer to the house, the town would look like an oasis nestled gently inside the arms of all the surrounding giant Rocky Mountains. From Ezayah’s room nature took on another form, it became like a scene from a master painting. The house had a blue front door, which flapped and squeaked in the wind if it not closed properly. Ezayah was now twelve years of age. Like so many children her age, Ezayah is on the brink of becoming a teenager. This is the time in every child’s life where every day seems endless. Everyday seems to have forty-eight hours instead of twenty-four. Children think and reminisce a great deal during this stage of their life’s’. Children subsciously understand that they are younger than most of their family members, they may also begin to understand maturity is brewing from the inside out. Many times, like Ezayah, although children are loved by their parents or guardians they still seem to feel alone in the world. Originally "Ezayah Silhouettes" was inspired by a conversation that I had with a colleague of mines in 2004. My wife and I were already awaiting the birth of our daughter. At least I figured that we would have a daughter even though we decided to keep the sex of the child a surprise. The topic of that conversation was the psychological impact agmonst children who belong to single parents resulting from a divorce or death etc. These families many times decide to start fresh in a new City, State or Country. The combination of these two situations in a young persons life would often cause a bit of chaos in the new household. Add to these two factors a young girl peaking on her womanhood. Well, it can become very interesting. Prior to this conversation I was already sketching a young girl around the age of eleven or twelve. She would often be standing on a hillside as she waited for incoming storms in the distance. So began the life of this character "Ezayah". Originally she was "Mia," my daughters name became "Miah". The characters name would eventually change to "Ezayah". I was beginning to deal with the notion of solitude and/or the cause and effect of being an outcast in society through my new work. These new drawings, sculptures & schematics would eventually become a part of a duel solo art exhibition with Erman Gonzalez in Miami's Design District. The exhibition included silhouette like projected drawings onto the gallery walls. These images were depictions of Ezayah's life as memories in the subconscious. The word silhouettes represents those images as memories in the book as well. In time I would continue to build on the "Ezayah's Silhouettes" series. Along side of "Ezayah" I continued to work on other projects simultaneously. As my daughter Miah began to mature so did Ezayah. Ezayah began to look and act more like my own daughter, this began to happen unintentionally.

M y mission is continue to bring "Ezayah" to life through words and illustrations with the completion of this book. I currently have a publisher who will launch the book, market and distribute it as well. The kickstarter money will be used for these purposes including advertisement & printing , etc. I hope that this book can create a new and unique experience which will not only inspire us today, but will inspire future generations to come. Thank you all for your support in helping make this book a reality.
