About this project
What is it?
ro-bot : A machine capable of carrying out a complex series of actions automatically.
Robots are wicked cool contraptions. We think everyone should have one. Here's your chance!
We've worked with many types of robots ranging from industrial robotics to consumer robotics and educational kits. What we find is that these are isolated platforms and rather costly. From building to learning with them.
Our goal is to devise an open robot platform that allows anyone to build a land, sea or air robot. These robots would be small, low cost and easy to build. The platform allows builders to learn electronics, mechanics and software development skills by using open source hardware and software.
Combine all this with the open robot platform (ORP) and you have your very own robot!
The Robots
We have three objectives for the open robot platform.
1. Types of Robot (land, sea, air)
Our goal is to come up with plans and materials that will enable us to make any robot based on the same type of items. Regardless of type (land, sea or air)
2. Components (controllers, sensors)
Our goal is to use open source hardware that is easily obtainable online or offline. We may employ the use of components like Arduino.
3. Software (programming environment, libraries)
The goal is to use software that is open source. However, not everything may be obtained therefore we will opt for FREEWARE or trial editions. Additional goals branch to the following topics:
a. Robust Programming Language
b. Feature Rich API's
c. Minimal learning curve with maximum impact
Funds
All funds from this project will be used to purchase
1. Equipment
2. Components
3. Materials
4. Workspace
5. Tools
6. Shipping
These items will enable us to create the platform and distribute it to you upon completion!
