Fans of DC cult favorites, Stripmall Ballads, already know that a recurring group of battered dreamers, rejects, scofflaws, pushers, and addicts inhabit the haunted soundscapes of the band's extensive song catalog. Stripmall's songwriter, Phillips Saylor, has, for years, woven a series of character arks and interlocking story lines into the wasteland of bombed out buildings, stripmall parking lots, rehab clinics, and freeway underpasses of his sombre americana.

But on October 8th, the DC area will experience these characters like never before as they come to life at the Strathmore mansion in "The Perfect Pipe Bomb"--DC's first-ever folk opera.

Puppets, story telling, shadows, choral arrangements and theatrics will accompany Stripmall Ballads' psychedelic folk rock as Phillips and his band tell the story of John and Jane Doe--an ill-fated pair of wannabes drunk on fireworks and the euphoria of anonymity--who embark on a road trip from hell to the promised land of St. Louis to make their mark on middle America.

"The Perfect Pipe Bomb"--a fusion of theatre and songwriting, old-time poetry and raw noise rock, virtuosic tradition and psychedelic experimentation, narrative and ecstatic performance--is the most ambitious performance attempted by any band in the DC area in many years.
