We've launched an exciting new project of our own! Introducing the Kickstarter app for iPhone!

Wrapping up #1

Update #7 · Aug 29, 2012 · comment

Although we were unable to Kickstart the Farmstead Flatbread project, I want to express my deep gratitude to everyone who generously supported this venture. This being just one of many venues to bring great community agricultural projects to life, I will certainly be exploring alternative funding sources to complete the project. I believe that community spaces on farms can be a vital component in the practical application of sustainable living and localize economies.

Thank you!

Dan

The local paper just did a great cover story about the projects being done on the farm:

Update #5 · Aug 15, 2012 · comment

We are now offering a second $100-level reward. Five, count 'em, FIVE visits to the farm for all-you-can-eat flatbread on any of our baking nights. This way, you'll have an opportunity to sample the whole range of bread we produce on any given night. The best part of the deal is that you get to bring a friend, family member, or random stranger along for the fun!

Our buddy Max did these amazing SketchUp renders of the pavilion. Hopefully the visual helps give a sense of the physical space we are trying to create. Imagine the possibilities!

We'll send you some of our sourdough starter! The Robbins starter lives in the backcountry and thrives on a rich diet of wild berries and seasonal fruits, maple syrup, spring water and a mix of hearty, Vermont grains. If you live locally, you can swing by the farm for a fresh scoop of this lively starter. You are also invited to our weekly, "Flatbread Friday" nights. If you are from outside the region, we will happily send you some fresh, dried starter with directions on how to tend it and make your own sourdough flatbreads.

Our breads are original and all-local! We ritually hike into the hills to tend our starter, grow our veggies within a stone's throw of the oven and source the remaining ingredients from regional foragers, herders, brewers, cheesemakers and grain growers. We honor your contribution with one of our fresh-baked flatbreads, which you can pick up at the farm during one of our Friday events or at the mid-week firing. You'll also get the sourdough starter, and a thank you on our Facebook page. For non-local folks, we're really sorry that we can't ship you a bread, but we can donate a flatbread to a local community organization or area non-profit in your honor. We'll let you know when and where your bread ended up and how much they enjoyed it.

Flatbread is fun to make and easy to learn! Come spend an afternoon with us for an introduction to wood-fired baking. You will learn how to tend a starter, create a dough, stoke a proper fire and bake a simple flatbread. We'll be holding regular community lessons, so you can come down when it fits your schedule. You'll get to take home some fresh starter and the bread you make, plus some other goodies we may try out in the oven. If you aren't from the area, we'll thank you on Facebook, send you the sourdough starter kit and make a flatbread donation to a local community group in your honor.

For some folks it's all about the bread! If you aren't up for a lesson but you love the flatbread and want to support the project, this reward is for you. You'll receive two flatbreads, which you can pickup at any of our Friday firings, plus we'll give you some sourdough starter so you can try your hand at home baking. For the out-of-towners, we'll donate two breads and send you the sourdough starter, as described above.

We love to collaborate! Over the years, we've enjoyed working with fellow artists to design and illustrate the visual narrative for our culinary adventures. We have partnered with a local artist to design an original, screen-printed t-shirt inspired by the project. You will also the sourdough starter, a flatbread at one of our Friday sessions and an invite to one of our group baking lessons. For folks far afield, we'll send you the sourdough starter, hand-screened t-shirt and donate two flatbreads to a local community group as described above.

Interested in getting more involved in the project? We'd love to train up a few folks who might like to make use of the oven on their own time. In addition to the goodies listed in the previous reward, we'll give you two breads, two group lessons and scheduled access to our oven, so you can bake off the occasional loaf or other wood-fired treats on your own time. For the flatlanders...as above, but we'll donate three breads and you can call or email us anytime for advice on baking or oven building.

You are a project partner! As above, but you'll receive three breads, three group or individual lessons, oven access and exclusive invites to on-farm trainings, events and workshops. For anyone who isn't local, it's as above, plus we'll donate five pies. If you decide to make the trip to Vermont, we'll let you tent on the farm for a few nights, teach you how to bake and tour you around the region.
