QuakeCon 2012 BYOC Experience

More than 3000 gamers will gather for a four-day Bring-Your-Own-Computer LAN in Dallas, Texas, at this year’s QuakeCon. Host id Software is leaving it up to the Cyber Sports Network volunteer admins to put on a non-stop interactive show for the in-house crowd as well as viewers on the live stream featuring gaming personality Maximus Black!

What is QuakeCon?

Often described as the “Woodstock of Gaming,” QuakeCon is a four-day, non-stop celebration of games and the people who play them. Free to all and open to the public, QuakeCon 2012 will feature North America’s largest Bring-Your-Own-Computer (BYOC) LAN party for nearly 3,000 people, chances for outrageous prizes, exhibits on the latest games and hardware, and non-stop entertainment, parties and events. First created in 1996 by a group of friends on IRC and now going into its fifteenth year, QuakeCon remains true to its original mission as an event created by gamers, for gamers. Sponsored by id Software and other industry-leading software and hardware manufacturers, QuakeCon continues to be run by a dedicated group of volunteers, including an executive team with more than 75 years of combined experience producing the event.

Who is MaximusBlack? 

MaximusBlack is an esports entertainer at LifesAGlitchTV as well as a professional Starcraft 2 player for Check Six Gaming. Though best known for co-founding and casting the hit Youtube series “When Cheese Fails”, Maximus also streams his SC2 games to tens of thousands of fans alongside friends in the “FellowShip Of The Bouses” and dabbles in several other games including Minecraft, Call of Duty, and League of Legends.

Why is MaximusBlack attending QuakeCon? 

Chosen for his popularity and outgoing personality, MaximusBlack will be hosting the event-long QuakeCon BYOC live stream.  He will be interacting with fans at the event and spectators on live stream to bring together the global QuakeCon audience.

Who is Cyber Sports Network? 

Cyber Sports Network is a leading eSports organization aimed at offering high-quality event and player coverage, industry-leading tournament and league software, and live-event services. Their administration team has executed more than 300 tournaments for over 20 game titles, and relies on strong relationships with each community to uphold the most competitive standards. QuakeCon represents an opportunity for CSN to give back to the gamers and connect with these communities on a personal level.

Why is Cyber Sports Network attending QuakeCon? 

Last year, QuakeCon BYOC attendees were thrilled with the experience Cyber Sports Network was able to provide with a volunteer staff and no monetary compensation. CSN distributed more than $40,000 in computer hardware, headsets, mice, keyboards, gaming laptops, and 6 full gaming rigs as part of dozens of tournaments and giveaways for the 2,900+ QuakeCon BYOC attendees. This year, id Software has invited us back, and we’re looking to make things even better. 

Where does the money go? 

The money raised will be used to pay for travel, accommodations, and fees for MaximusBlack. Additionally, your contribution will go directly towards basic travel expenses for up to 12 Cyber Sports Network staff members, who are are attending QuakeCon 2012 and organizing tournaments, raffles and giveaways in the BYOC area on an unpaid, volunteer basis. Each available on-site staff member allows us to add more events, better organization, and provide more support to the BYOC experience.  Any pledges beyond our goal will go directly to the BYOC to make the event and live stream experience even better. Additional pledges will allow CSN to contribute more product directly to the hundreds of BYOC volunteers who setup and keep the BYOC running for the 72 hours.
