About this project

Joel Kelly and I met online in 2005, and became fast friends. We began to collaborate on various projects, and in 2007 (I'm wrong in the video!) we started working on "Dead Space," a short film adaptation of a story that Joel had written for his blog.

Life intervened, and between our jobs, school, and life in general it seemed that we wouldn't be able to find time to make Dead Space. And there were elements of the plot that I didn't feel comfortable shooting without more expensive gear.

New tech has made the aesthetic we need affordable and accessible, and schedules have aligned to make a late-summer shoot possible. We're applying for grants and looking for financial support, and you can be a part of the process and get rewarded as a result through Kickstarter!

Where is the money going?

We're basically starting from scratch (in terms of production equipment, anyway).

We'll be buying a camera (Canon T3i), lenses, HD monitors, and audio equipment like microphones, cables, mixers, and DAT recorders. We'll rent as much as we can to keep costs down, but some things are cheaper to buy in the long term.

We'll also have to get permits, pay talent, buy food, and all the other stuff that goes into a film. There's a lot involved!

Synopsis

The most important facet of any failed relationship is blame. But Evan and Molly find out that analyzing a relationship is a lot like trying to make sense of a dream: assigning meaning to half-remembered conversations and fabricated arguments. But you still have to do it.

FAQ

  • Simple! You decide how much you want to pledge, and pledge it! If we reach our threshold ($4000) by August 15th, your credit card will be charged and we get to make Dead Space. If we fall short, you keep your money and we cry. Or something like that.

And you get rewards too! After the project is successfully funded, you'll get sent a form asking for your name, address, and email. Fill it out and we'll be in touch about getting you the swag you've earned by supporting us.

    It couldn't be easier!

  • We have donation levels all the way down to $1.00, so we think we've made this accessible to everyone! But if you don't have a credit card or simply can't afford that amount, spread this video around on your social network(s) of choice. Tweet it, post it on Facebook, Google Plus it – whatever the kids are doing today!

  • The setting of the film is (tentatively) Niagara Falls, New York. We'll use all of Buffalo-Niagara as our canvas though, and post production will take place in Amherst, a suburb just north of Buffalo (where I go to school).
