The M-Plate development is going well and we are sending the next design revisions for another CNC prototype. Attached is a photo of the old prototype showing the new mounting location so the plate doesn't stick out to the side of the camera.
Two additional notes: 1. the hanging position will not be affected with this offset (when using the C-Loop) 2. the M-Link attachment port and camera mounting point will be interchangeable allowing for more flexibility.
The profile will also be slimmed and more compact overall. In addition, we will be testing a hard anodized coating for more surface protection and durability (Vote here for black or silver). More updates to come.

I agree with Dustin, the plate should clear the battery compartment - for all cameras - if the plate is to be universal.

Maybe my above comment is already accounted for. It seems the picture above is for the new mount but old plate layout.

I love the idea and have already preordered one, but I would love to see the option of a version without the hand strap extension that would allow me to keep the plate on the camera and maintain access to the battery compartment on my d7000. Please consider for us lazy folks that don't want to ever take the plate off.

Cant wait to see and use the final product. Would also love to see an L-bracket design.. although that would most likely be less universal as camera body size varies. But still, I would pay for that!
