$20,000 allows 20,000 students in the U.S. & India to give and receive personally created art and messages of peace on a postcard
Last year, Create Peace Project (www.createpeaceproject.org) facilitated its first Peace Exchange including more than 6,000 students in an international art-for-peace project. We delivered 3,000 personally created peace cards (works of art and messages of peace) made by students in the U.S. to 3,000 students in schools across Uganda. The Ugandan students were completely thrilled to receive a peace card from the U.S. and overjoyed when given art supplies and invited to create one themselves. (There is a video below about this project in Uganda.)
This school year, we are going to activate 20,000 youth in this global art-for-peace project! The Peace Exchange involves facilitating a one-to-one exchange of art and messages of peace between 10,000 or more U.S. students with an equivalent number of students in India. Now we need your help to enable us to spread peace through creativity into the lives of more than 20,000 youth in the months ahead.
Our budget for this project is $1 per student. Thus, 20,000 participating students equals $20,000. How many students can you sponsor? Your contribution provides art supplies, project facilitation, and will cover the costs of postage, printing, project management and documentation.
Twenty five U.S. schools have already signed up for the Peace Exchange, allowing more than 4,000 students located in 12 different states to participate in the project. More schools are coming on board every day. Your support will help us reach our goals and enable our travel to India where we will work with another 10,000 or more students, documenting our project and then returning to the U.S. to complete the exchange.
As we know, violence in schools has become an unfortunate and pervasive reality: a sad reflection of the inundation of violence in the media and entertainment industries. The Peace Exchange is inspiring our youth to think, act, and behave in a peaceful way.
The Peace Exchange is our way of encouraging students into being the peace keepers our world needs. Our experience with this project shows us how the power of being peaceful, making art, and sending a positive word from one person to another can truly spread hope and goodwill into the world.
If you are interested in more information about how to get involved in this project, please email us: firstname.lastname@example.org or request information at www.createpeaceproject.org. U.S. school participation will continue until February 1, 2010.
In February, 2011, a small team will travel to India where we will spend 10-weeks delivering Peace Exchange workshops to underprivileged students across that country. Each Indian students will create and receive a peace card as part of our workshop. While in India, Create Peace Project will partner with Pratham, www.pratham.org, who can provide access to schools across India. We will return to the U.S. at the end of April, 2011, to bring Indian peace cards to U.S. students along with a short video about our experience in India.
