We're almost there - Please help us complete our sound mix, color correction and launching of the film's community outreach campaign!
Dear friends (and yet unmet supporters!),
My name is Marie Regan and I'm in the final stages of the documentary film Cowboy Song and of launching the film's community outreach. We're almost there, but need your help to clear the very last hurdles.
The film has been real labor of love. I've spent more than 5 years shooting, editing and uncovering the unique relationship developed between two men: my father Bill, and my uncle Mike, who has profound disabilities. Tracing their relationship from their 1950s childhood through decades when Mike lived away from home, their story turns in late 1990s, when Bill and Mike's father–who Mike was closest to–suddenly develops Alzheimer's. Bill retires to take care of their father, but soon realizes the best way to do so is to take over responsibility for Mike. Mike cannot speak and has constant seizures so it can be hard to tell what he really takes in, but the family has long believed in his love of cowboy songs. As Bill tries to incorporate these songs into their new routines, the songs begin to suggest what both men leave unsaid.
At its core, Cowboy Song is a moving, personal tale of two brothers and the impact of disability on a family. Set in the changing, traffic-bound highways of the San Francisco Bay Area, it also suggests a new way of considering the expectations of men in the American West. I'm eager to get the story of these remarkable men into the world.
Your support couldn't come at a more important time. With the exception of a few grants (and lots of encouraging words from friends and film folks) Cowboy Song has been largely self-funded.
Any gift to the kickstarter campaign will help offset some of the final costs to achieve the film's goals.
- Fix (and remix) sound.
- Color correct the film for final mastering.
- Close captioning of the film.
- DVD mastering.
- Study guide for the film.
- Outreach screenings.
Thank you so much for whatever you can give. Can you also help us by forwarding this campaign along to anyone you think might be interested?
More information about the film can be found on my website: www.mariereganfilm.com. Thanks for your support and help.
If we raise more than our goal, all funds will go toward toward more outreach to the disability community and toward offsetting some of the film's prior unsubsidized costs.
