Courtney McCLean & The Dirty Curls is America's Finest Naughtybilly Band!

Comedic alchemy was achieved in July of 2009 when Courtney "McClean" McLean decided that she wanted to front a band in which she could use her rudimentary banjo skills, her obsession with talking about all things sexual, and her penchant for having an audience in stitches. She recruited her buddies Bunny Sparber to work the bass/jug/harmonica/Jew's Harp, and Coco Mault, to beat the washboard/cowbell/triangle. What was intended to just be a fun side project has now exploded onto the Twin Cities' performing arts scene. Courtney McClean & The Dirty Curls are the purveyors of refreshingly shameless, hilariously sexually-explicit bluegrass-inspired music.

So far, Courtney McClean & The Dirty Curls have had the honor of playing Turf Club, 501 Club, the 331 Club, Nomad World Pub, Bedlam Theatre, Bryant Lake Bowl, Club Underground NE, Cinema Bar (Los Angeles), and even a house party or two. We are thoroughly enjoying this process of writing songs that make us collapse into tears of laughter and performing them live while flirting with a bowled-over crowd.

About The Dirty Curls:

Bunny Sparber is a longtime writer and performer. Originally from the Twin Cities,
he has lived in Los Angeles, where he did theater with
Academy Award-winning actress Shelley Winters, Omaha, where he did a
singing cowboy show, and New Orleans, where he performed in the French
Quarter with a filthy sailor puppet. Now back in the Twin Cities, he
is a playwright with Off-Leash Area, an online journalist, and the
bass section of Courtney McClean and the Dirty Curls.

Coco Mault has been performing in the Twin Cities for years. Her performance experience includes piano recitals and band concerts, but she eventually set her drumsticks aside in favor of performing improv with Deja Voodoo and The Velvet Elvises.
All these years of performing took a toll on Coco; she was broke in more ways than one. So she became a writer. And, obviously, remained broke. For a time, it appeared she hit bottom as she could only muster up enough energy to collect cans, using the money to buy those tiny bottles of whiskey. She truly hit bottom when she fought with the recycling man, who wouldn't accept a washboard she found. She ended up killing a man with the washboard that day, and little did she know, that was also the day her luck would change.
She put the bottle cap from a tiny bottle of Jameson on her finger and scraped it down the washboard and thought, "What the hell? I might as well ride into the sunset, playing the washboard in Courtney McClean's naughtybilly band." So Coco painted her boots pink and has never been happier to be a Dirty Curl.

Courtney McLean is an actress, stand-up comedian, writer, storyteller, improviser, banjo player, sister, daughter, native Californian, transplanted New Yorker, recently crowned Minnesotan, and "the nerdiest girl Jimmy Gaines knows." Her one-woman shows, "Normal-C" and "Super Glossy!" have toured to Fringe Festivals across the nation. She is a proud founding member of Rockstar Storytellers. Recently, Courtney has been seen in Girl Friday Productions' "The Skin Of Our Teeth," and Four Humors' "Sideways Stories From Wayside School," and "Love Is Blind... And Furry" and Theatre Arlo's "A Christmas Carol: The Golden Girls Remix" on various stages in Minneapolis.
