The neon sign for "Sid King's Crazy Horse Bar" is a work of art and a nugget of Denver history that we'd like to put in an art gallery.
We want to save a historic neon sign that at one time cast its colorful glow onto Denver's Colfax Avenue. The "Sid King's Crazy Horse Bar" sign came down when the establishment closed 30 years ago. Luckily it was not destroyed. However, it has spent decades in the hands of private collectors. The current owner of the sign no longer has room to display it so it is sitting in storage collecting dust. We have a unique opportunity at this very moment to secure the sign so we can restore it and display it for public viewing. All the pieces are coming together. The Collection Art Gallery on Colfax Avenue has the space to display a sign of this size and would be an ideal location as the sign would finally be "coming home" to Colfax.
We need your support to make this happen. Neon signs are a part of our history and are worth preserving. Sid King's was a long-standing Colfax Avenue establishment that welcomed such icons as Clint Eastwood and Elvis Presley as well as King Hussein of Jordan. The neon sign's red and yellow hues could be seen prominently in a scene out of Eastwood's movie "Every Which Way but Loose." With its zig-zagging bent glass design, it is a work of art that should be saved.
WITH YOUR HELP
With your help we can get this sign out of storage and into an art gallery. Your money will be used to ensure everyone can have access to viewing this sign. There are many costs associated with this project, including making sure the electrical connections are safe for public display and making repairs as needed. If this project is not successful, this great artwork will remain either in storage or in a private collection. We feel everyone should be able to enjoy it and that's why we began this Kickstarter campaign.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Transporting this sign must be done using the utmost care. Glass is fragile and breaking any of the glass tubes could be costly. We are confident we can safely bring the Sid King's sign out of storage and onto the walls of The Collection Art Gallery. Once there, we will take care to mount the sign in a safe and sturdy manner. We will also ensure that all electrical connections are safe for a public display. Once finished, this will be a one-of-a-kind art experiment -- the kind of experience we have come to expect on Colfax Avenue.
