@ Jordan - Yes, the nano cloud can occupy the same quire as a miniature. In fact it's a good tactic to try and do that if you are a Strain player. If a Vanguard model ends his turn in the cloud, he get's an infection marker...
@ Robin - Yes they have. That is the trouble with taking promo shots when things are still in development. I took that picture some time ago, and we re-designed the cards in the final layout phase for easy of use and clarity - I'm really glad we did, as they work far better now.

Have the stats cards been revamped? I thought that they look slightly different in this video than in the images on the project home page (The one with three tiles, and stat cards bottom left).
Creator Jordan Peacock on June 3, 2012
Heh. A slight amendment to my comment. If I read things correctly on the progress goals, the virus cloud markers *ARE* plastic. And here I thought that would be overkill! I stand corrected. :)
Creator Jordan Peacock on June 3, 2012
Do virus clouds ever occupy the same space as a miniature? If so, I can see the reason for the flat tokens -- but if not, once I eventually get my own copy, I'll probably try to make custom markers. On a board with lots of standing minis, for anything that's going to see a lot of movement in the game, I prefer to have markers I can grab onto. It needn't be PLASTIC (that would probably be overkill), but a "standee" comprised of two pieces of cardboard with slots so they can fit together at right angles (forming an "x" if viewed from above) could do the job.
But overall, I appreciate the game-play video! Very nice, straightforward, with easy resolution.
Creator Mitchell Jones on June 2, 2012
This video is great, it really gives me a clear picture of what the game is and how it's played. I really like how the stats are all laid out on cards, and that whole idea with the paper clip is absolutely genius. I'm pretty stoked to get a copy of the game now.
Creator Willem-Jan Bertram on June 2, 2012
Well done, looks fun and provides a ton of info on the game.....which certainly isn't a bad thing judging from yet another achieved stretch goal!
Creator CoolMiniOrNot on June 2, 2012
Generally they bite it really fast, especially with focused fire. With only 7 to 8 health, two hits, or one lucky shot from a standard carbine will take down Phase 1s and 2s.
Creator Miniature Review on June 2, 2012
After watching the video, I hope that the nano clouds used will be made of some type of plastic. It would be cool if the clouds were translucent green.
I am thinking each nano cloud could be a 2 to 3 part counter. Something similar to Litko's flame markers.

Is it ever hard to keep track of which units are wounded using cards? Or do the cannon fodder units tend to die pretty quickly after taking wounds in practice?
Creator Christopher Dalton on June 2, 2012
I think I'll laminate these too, and go for the dry erase approach.
Creator Keegan Fink on June 2, 2012
I will probably laminate or sleeve and just use dry erase -- wasn't sure if I couldn't persuade Mike in favor of tokens ;-)
Creator Shawn Beatty on June 2, 2012
I think putting your cards in sleeves will eliminate wear.
Creator Keegan Fink on June 2, 2012
I was thinking a cool alternative would be stats sliders like they have in Betrayal At The House on The Hill. For me, I worry about the wear and tear on the cards over time (as par as paperclips are concerned)
Creator Sleet on June 2, 2012
I thought the game sounded awesome before, but seeing the mechanics behind it impresses me even more.
I have to ask, though, how easily the campaign missions could be played on one's own. Maybe have a special table at the beginning of each one suggesting how the Strain should prioritize their actions?
Creator Tom D.B. on June 2, 2012
I have to agree with Keegan. Wound tokens or 'special' Sedition wars paperclips would be cool to complete a great looking boardgame.
Creator Studio McVey on June 2, 2012
Glad you like the video! It shows just shows some of the core concepts of game play - there's lots more depth than we shown here.
We don't provide a wound tracker in the game, but we have been using paper-clips during play tests - they work really well. They are very cheap and they can't get knocked off the card like a token could. Or you could put the cards in sleeves and use dry-wipe pens.
@ John - there are ways you can get rid of the nano cloud - Rad Pulse grenades for instance.
Creator Keegan Fink on June 2, 2012
Since plastic bits can raise the price, what about a punch-out token for tracking health stats? I guess you could always laminate the sheets and use dry erase, or even use extra dice to count down HP. Still, I'm keen to know if there is a more elegant plan for HP tracking instead of a plain ole' paper clip (assuming it was just a "stand in" piece for the video). The game looks great!
Creator K Peterson on June 2, 2012
Intriguing! How is initiative/turn order determined?
Creator Nat on June 2, 2012
Loving the boards. I wasn't sure about them before but seeing them in action I've definitely been convinced. November can't come fast enough!
Creator Sunjeev Shukla on June 2, 2012
Christopher - Cheers buddy for the honesty i shall hold back ive already pledged biohazard :)
Creator Equalizer on June 2, 2012
Very, very interesting fast rules system! Thumb up
Creator Andrew Hayford on June 2, 2012
If they don't provide something, you should be able to find a wide variety of clips at your local office supply store.
Creator Style over Substance on June 2, 2012
Thanks for the vid! Have to say that I like these SV info-updates! Requesting nano cloud and corpse tokens in plastic! Love the image of sliding around little puffs of virulent smoke! Like others, not digging the clips, but if it isn't upgraded, I don't see any problem with sliding a cube or something on there.
Creator Christopher Dalton on June 2, 2012
Sunjeev- as someone who bought all the metal models, I can tell you to have patience!! They do not come with the special bases (which are integral wih the new infection markers) nor do they come with stat cards. The base game is such an amazing deal that it's worth the wait, you'd spend about te same on a metal vanguard collection as you would by pledging at quarantine (but we all know it's biohazard or bust!)
Creator Michael Martin on June 2, 2012
Very nice! Any chance we could get plastic health markers for the cards, instead of having to use paper clips? Something like the clips on Zombicide?
Creator Sunjeev Shukla on June 2, 2012
omg i soo want this game :) Can you buy the metal minis from studio mcvey and use them in this game? dont know much about this as you can tell!
Creator John Falcon on June 2, 2012
Is there a Vanguard unit with a special ability to eradicate a Nano Cloud?
Creator CoolMiniOrNot on June 2, 2012
The Evolve mechanic is a great resource balancer. If you play Strain, do you stand your units about waiting for the Nano clouds to catch up (and hence taking a unit effectively out of action)? The Vanguard player can also see that units are being upgraded at the back of the board, which adds both dread and urgency to fulfilling her objectives!
Creator John Falcon on June 2, 2012
Oh, and a nice mouth watering video by the way...great work so far!
Creator Erasmus MusicCentre on June 2, 2012
Lol,I just said the same thing in the project comments.
Creator John Falcon on June 2, 2012
WellnI can see the paper clip being replaced by a specially made clip as a stretch goal! ;)
