Rules update and painted fig images from Golem!

Update #93 · May 21, 2013 · 60 comments

It's been four months since the release of Sedition Wars through Kickstarter, and in that time it has been played by thousands of people and the system tested to the limit. Whilst we made every effort to keep the game as tight as we could, with the feedback provided by all of you we've identified some issues that we had missed.

In the last few months we have been tightening the game and doing some re-balancing work on the cards, and here are the results. Both the rulebook and cards are now available as PDFs that have been sized for both on-screen viewing and home printing, you can download them via the link below.

Right-click and choose "Save As"

http://cmon.co/1a3qpPG - Cards (7 meg)

http://cmon.co/11WM0LP - Rulebook (6.3 meg)

We will continue to work on the game in the coming months, with the aim of making the system and tight and smooth as we can. We will also have hard copies available to buy in the coming months - they are printed, and we are waiting for the shipment to arrive. We plan to price these as cheaply as we can. and will update on that as soon as they are available.

Thanks for your continued support of the game!

- mike

P.S. here's some pics of the production models delivered to backers of the painted levels! - CMoN

P.P.S Tools are done for the 2nd wave of figs and we'll get a production update out as soon as we get a firm date (i.e. terrain packs, Calamity crew, Gnosis suits etc) - CMoN

As usual, support requests go to kickstarter@coolminiornot.com - PMs on Kickstarter are read but at a lower priority, we are currently slightly backlogged but are catching up so expect to hear back in about 3 days.

Wave 2 update - eta June/July

Update #92 · Mar 16, 2013 · 88 comments

Hi, Mike here. I know you are all eager to get the wave two miniatures, so I thought I'd post an official update on them.

As you have no doubt realised, we are running late on these miniatures. The print delay was one factor - and while I know printing and making miniatures are quite separate things, Studio McVey is just a small operation, and when something comes along and upsets the process, it knocks on in all sorts of ways. In this case, my time was the thing that suffered - dealing with the delays with production just didn't leave me with enough time to be 100% vigilant with the sculpting process, and as a consequence, two or three of the sculpts came in late. As all the miniatures are being tooled together - this made everything late into tooling and meant that we landed in the middle of the Chinese New Year black hole. I had hoped that we would be able to get rolling with them immediately after New Year, but that just hasn't happened, and only now are the tools being completed.

The tools have to be finished, production runs completed and product assembled and shipped from China. In realistic terms this mean a shipping date to backers of the end of June. I know you are all going to be disappointed to hear that - but believe me, no one is more disappointed than me. I'd rather give you a realistic date now, then tell you they are on the way and keep you hanging.

In a lot of ways, we have been the victim of the success of the Kickstarter - we ended up having to make around 40 unique sculpts, far more than double what went into the game itself, and far more than we usually make over the course of a couple of years. Quite a stretch for us, but one that we have learned a lot from.

On the positive side, some of these miniatures are amongst the best Studio McVey has ever produced. I'll leave you with some pictures of the last couple that came in - Battle damage Akosha and Gnosis Armour Kara, both are stunning miniatures - and hopefully worth the wait.

Sedition Wars map editor now available!

Update #91 · Mar 4, 2013 · 8 comments

We’re delighted to release the Sedition Wars version of the fantastic bgmapeditor software created by MZI.

Windows - Includes everything you need preinstalled.

Map pack - Just the maps, if you want to use a different version of bgmapeditor.

The Sedition Wars pack comes pre-installed for Windows, but if you’re on a mac, you’ll have to download the original version from here, then copy it to your applications folder and open it up. When it’s opens – click on ‘Packs” and click ‘Add’ – locating the zipped mac file you downloaded from here. That will add the Sedition Wars material to the menu on the left of the mapeditior window. Once you have the Sedition Wars pack – click on ‘Edit’ then ‘Insert’ to add tiles or counters to the grey area. After you have clicked on Insert, click on the element you want to add – then click on the grey area to the right to place that item. Once you have the item in place, you can re-position it where you want it.

So try it out and be sure to post your creations over at the Sedition Wars forums here:- http://studiomcvey.com/forums/index.php?/forum/13-battle-for-alabaster/

Lights Out Campaign released!

Update #90 · Feb 20, 2013 · 18 comments

Right now, with the game in peoples hands, we've found ourselves answering an onslaught of forum posts, fielding questions for our FAQ, and running polishing passes for the remainder of the Kickstarter material. All of this action is a bit overwhelming, but at the same time super exciting.

Since launching the Kickstarter with Coolminiornot we've learned a lot.

Mike and I long ago made a commitment to delivering you quality. We want to make sure that the Lights Out Solo Play Rules we've promised to deliver meet or exceed the quality bar we've set for ourselves.

Regretfully, I'm making the decision to delay the Solo Play rules set. Despite our best efforts, in order to meet our standards - and more importantly, yours - the rules need further revision, play-testing, and review.

I realize that this may be a disappointment to some. However we want to make sure that when the Solo Rules are ready, they are fun, consistent, clear, and easy to understand.

The good news is that the Lights Out campaign itself, is ready to go. We've had a solid play-test pass on it, and in Sedition Wars style, we've tied the whole thing together in a nice neat narrative wrapper.

The Lights Out scenario includes:

  • Rules for Vanguard Opti-camo
  • Rules for Strain Nano-Genesis
  • 5 robust scenarios to engage players in an escalating series of skirmishes.
  • Introduces "load-outs" - Pre-balanced lists of models - So you can set-up and play with a minimum of accounting.

Opticamo and Nano-Genesis are also portable to the main game for use in Strategic or Story scenarios at your discretion.

You have our sincerest apologies about the delay on Solo Play, but we truly hope you understand that we want to give you the best experience we can.

We promise the wait won't be long, and it will be worth it.

In the meantime enjoy Lights Out, and stay frosty,

Rob Baxter

Terrain pack renders - wave 2 progress. Reminder: Wave 1 Shipping Complete

Update #89 · Feb 18, 2013 · 24 comments

Here's some pics of the upcoming Terrain Pack - everything for wave 2 is in tooling at the moment and we'll have an update on the expected ship date on your remaining items when we have a firm date.

Some things are still to be determined re the part counts, but you'll get tons of pieces in the terrain pack.

As a reminder: Wave 1 shipping is complete.  If you haven't received your pledge, and haven't seen anything except this update, then please email kickstarter@coolminiornot.com.  We are still waiting on about 50 of you to reply to our emails.  Do not request support in the comments - we can't help you there without revealing private info about you, and asking for help over the private message system in Kickstarter will lead to delays getting back to you.
