      Hey Mike,
Not a dumb question. I too am tired of waiting for these. I followed up with CMON last week. I received an e-mail from Emily. She stated that
“While we do have Battlefoam cases back in stock, we’re still checking the inventory and there’s no verified count yet. So unfortunately I can’t make any promises yet about sending them out. Once we have an idea of how many are available from this shipment, we’ll provide you with an update.”

Too bad Battlefoam did not provide a packing slip with the contents of the shipment…..

Also, they said with the original announcements that the bags would be shipped in order of your pledge number. I assume that means lower numbers of those who did not get them in Jan will get them first. However, I never saw a number of how many were shipped in Jan and how many people ordered them, so that info is pretty much useless.

Hopefully it is not much longer.

@Matt - well there we have it. BBG was behind the complete overhaul of the units. That's the reason 2.0 is so different than 1.0.

Creator Matt Dorangricchia 1 day ago

@Matthew Ok. So, carrying over from RK, no, a game does not need to be perfect from the get go. Neither should one expect a complete overhaul four months in. And from the sound of it, the units got a complete overhaul. Hopefully it works out for the best and the game can stabilize.

Perhaps in the future once things calm down we will learn which version is the "Director's Cut."

I think the important thing here is see how it plays...

    7. Kdgmf2.small

Creator Matthew Blecke 1 day ago

@Matt - I'd be happy to keep SW chatter here as opposed to gumming up RK. It's just a hunch, but I am willing to wager that 1st edition was what was intended. The wholesale changes to stats and abilities seems out of place. Some of the changes I wholeheartedly endorse - like taking Overload out of Reflex Trigger. But dropping it to 7 damage with no staging? Reducing Samaritan armor to 15? There's a lot of changes to most, if not every, unit.

    8. Kdgmf2.small

Creator Matthew Blecke 1 day ago

@Matt - agreed. I think, what has happened here, is that 1st edition was all SMV. Mike, Rob, a few others. 2nd edition has seen Blackball Games brought in to help with rules. So how much they changed things, as opposed to what SMV initially desired, remains to be determined.

      Wow, very interesting stuff.
I believe some valid points are made about being involved on KS. They are risky and deadlines seem to be broken often.
Some of the smaller designers seem to need a larger partner to help support their work and in doing so it requires them to give the "keys" to their game to another entity.

I will note no game should be put out without proper plaything. Even with play testing we ALL can find something wrong almost any game out there. I am sure we will never know.

I just want my 2nd wave.

    11. 200-herald-of-death.small

Creator Matt Dorangricchia 1 day ago

@Matthew And there we have the conundrum created with a partial look behind the curtain. What was the creator's intent? Did the original rules play exactly as they were intended and the revisions exist solely to appease the players? Or, did the game hit the masses and suddenly there were several WTF moments the creator never expected and the current version is an attempt to bring the game closer to what it was always meant to be? We don't know. What we do know is there has been a new set of rules and cards released by the creator and we can only move forward under the assumption that THOSE are the rules we are meant to use playing this game and NOT the ones it came with. Why those rules and not the original? I know I don't know.

    12. Kdgmf2.small

Creator Matthew Blecke 1 day ago

@Psych Lops - that's odd. Plenty of people were able to play just fine with the stuff out of the box. Was it perfect? No. Is this revision perfect? No. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I grow weary of the "this game is unplayable" mantra that I've been hearing since day 1.

Creator Psych Lops Soft Wear 1 day ago

@Matthew Blecke "rules/cards not functioning properly? Did the pages stick? Do the cards magically erase themselves when you try to look at them?"

It's more that the rules are unclear, contradictory, and contain numerous errors. Same for the cards. I believe we're allowed to show concern over how the project is being managed, and we did that. We were told that there was no need for playtesting or proofreading. In fact, the rulebook even mentions a proofreader, and the 2ed has two: Guy Haley and Nick Johnson. So you would think we could expect that the text would be free, or at least mostly free of spelling and grammatical errors. The original was not, and neither is the 2ed. A number of play testers were mentioned in the original rulebook - I believe there are even more in the 2ed (it might have been nice to mention the amount of testing and feedback from the community - some people (not me) really worked hard to help out there).

If something functions, that means it works. The rules and the cards as delivered do not work; they do not function correctly. I know they don't meet your strawman conditions of failure, but luckily for those of us who do not feel the need to white-knight terrible decisions with horribly constructed arguments, there are already perfectly acceptable, well-defined and universally agreed-upon descriptions of such words as "functions."

    14. Tiger%20cub%20avatar.small

      Creator Talarius 1 day ago

*sigh* Page nine of this revised rulebook has the same example diagram of "Pressing Through" from the original edition. The model is shown using 5 movement to reach its destination when it could do so with 3 movement. This was the very first rules question thread I participated in on Studio McVey's forum back in JANUARY. Not only did we never get an answer, but it appears to have gone completely unnoticed while editing the "new, improved" version of the rulebook. Honestly. My wife is an editor and she would get raked over the coals for doing such a sloppy job. I love the minis, the background and the general gameplay concepts, but this has been a train wreck so far. My confidence that you've got this dialed in perfectly now is REALLY LOW.

      Creator Arsonor 2 days ago

@Phil & Amy - But they didn't offer a playtest before the Kickstarter ended. And they never said they would. And yet people jumped in and took the risk regardless. Admittedly, letting folks playtest then rules and then offer feedback before printing might have saved some trouble. But no one was forced to Kickstart this project.

    16. Vultan.small

Creator Phil & Amy Atherton 2 days ago

@Matthew Not to labour a point (and I hate to be negative as I really love the miniatures) but if there was nothing wrong with the rules they wouldn't need to replace them and the cards in such a short space of time. If we'd had the opportunity to play test the game I don't think we would have had these issues at all and it is not uncommon for play testing to happen on Kickstarter, its a great way to involve your growing community as well as refine any issues the rules may have.

    17. Kdgmf2.small

Creator Matthew Blecke 2 days ago

rules/cards not functioning properly? Did the pages stick? Do the cards magically erase themselves when you try to look at them? I have been able to play the game just fine with what came in the box, and so have plenty of others. There is a new edition of the rules, but they don't owe you them for free (even though they have provided just that). GW isn't in the habit of open betatesting their rules, and they certainly don't give you new editions for free. Heck the RULEBOOK for 40k is as much as the whole Sedition Wars box.

    18. Vultan.small

Creator Phil & Amy Atherton 2 days ago

@Willem I have to agree with you on some of that, we funded this project however the rules/cards were not functioning properly so we should receive replacements for these and not have to buy new ones, afterall this is a board game not a war game where you can expect rules to change over time. This is just a case of the rules not being properly play tested (which as you said is a waste of such a good resource - us) and it appears that the new rules/cards have been sent to the printers without testing either which is just a little daft to be honest.

However one thing I will say though is that the miniatures are gorgeous and I if the expansion is Kickstarted I will pledge for it however it will purely be for the miniatures this time unless they can get the rules nailed down properly, tested and then printed.

This really s becoming a trend with CMON-published games, delayed shipping, early con release and rushed work on components. Quite frankly after all the mess with Relic Knights, Sedition Wars and what I've been hearing from Rivet Wars I'm not going anywhere near another CMON Kickstarter. At least not until they actually get some projects finished before starting even more (rumors of Confrontation and Sedition Wars expansion for example). Heck one of the last things I've read is that the decision of how to handle the expansions is up to the publisher, so CMON and not Studio McVey......which I find a worrying development. Simpy put, until CMON can prove they can actually manage and see a Kickstarter project through to its final stages thy won't be getting anymore cash from me.

Now moving on to Sedition Wars. First off let me say that I absolutely love the minis I've gotten in the box / so far, you've really delivered on those and they will be used for years and decades to come in various scifi settings. The rest of the components on the other hand are quite a different story.

I've gone out of my way to try and let things slide. But between the bad boards (insane warping even months later, poorly glued and very dark print), different unit cards orientations and shapes (which I can let slide due to the issues with the printer), off-center counter prints, a box that is actually too small to comfortably hold the gaming boards, and the messy rule set. Ive aid it before on numerous projects, but for heaven sake make use of the wonderful free proofreading resource directly available to you right here. Simply put there is just such a discrepancy between the quality of the models and the rest of the product that is really feels like there has been no quality control for most of the components.

I understand designers are hesitant to let their IP and product go, but there's a huge difference between being protective of one's work and actively sabotaging thorough testplaying, poofreading and editing.

Quite frankly, despite all these wonderful minis now being available in semi-plastic I fear this Kickstarter may end up doing more harm to the IP than is has been worth. And if CMON is indeed in charge of how the financing of future expansions is going to take place I'd say it is a good time to decide whether that partnership is a good thing to keep in place!

@Rand - the new stuff is the latest, but my sense is that only the cards changed.

I don't think there were any backer / fan playtesting, just internal band-aiding for the most egregious issues noted, primarily addressed via new card stats & tweaks.

As far as I can tell, no changes were made to balance the scenarios.

Looks like everyone is starting to learn that not all kickstarters go smoothly. Not playing any companies but when you are sourcing product global and have a smaller budget than a fortune 100 then it can take longer.

I am sure they will come through, albeit delayed but if they could get it sooner to us they would.

update provided by Mike McVey over on the SW forums ....

      "Posted 11 May 2013 - 09:26 PM
      Hi Guys

I'm not going to respond to specific points on this thread, or get drawn into trying to justify or defend what we (Studio McVey) are doing as a company, but I will give you an update on exactly where we are with everything.

Production for wave two items are on track exactly the same as we updated last time. The miniatures are in tooling and very soon, production. The cards are being printed. Unless I hear anything different from anyone on the production side, we aim to be shipping the packages out at the end of June. If I hear different I will certainly let everyone know.

The updated rulebook and cards are complete and are currently being prepared as downloadable versions. We are going to have two versions - one printable, and a smaller one that will work on screen. The same is true of the cards, but they are holding the process up a little as they have to be physically altered to work for home printing. I had hoped to have these ready for release last week - but the Kickstarter cards ran over and pushed everything else back. My plan now is to have them ready early next week. As soon as I know for sure, I will post that news here.

Rob Baxter is just starting to get up to speed again. I'm not going to discuss the nature of his absence, that's a personal issue for him. All I will say, is my main concern is with him at the moment - and if things are slower than they otherwise would be - that's an issue we'll have to deal with, it's insignificant compared to his health and well-being.

I apologise for posting on the forums less that some would like, but it entirely possible that won't change. Sedition Wars is absolutely my focus and I spend seven days a week working on it - it's just impossible to be everywhere at once though, and the more time I spend on the forums, the less time I have to work on product. It's also nice to be able to see my family at least every now and again!

One thing that I have not updated on is the terrain set. That's done too, and on the same timeline as wave 2. The box went to print last week, and the pieces are looking great - very happy with how they came out. I'll upload some pictures of them as soon as I get the chance - I'll try and do that either later tonight or tomorrow, depending on how much I get done.

      cheers for now,

      mike "

The last update said they are at the factory getting tooled then produced then put on a ship and aren't expected to arrive stateside till the end of June. I don't imagine that CoolMini has too much involvement at this point, and McVey Studios even less, so the lack of an update would probably mean a lack of news and everything is going according to plan (as it stood in the last update).

Remember that Studio McVey do not run this kickstarter and CMoN has a terrible history of keeping people informed of the ongoings after a kickstarter closes.
I suspect that they are either deep in production at the moment or on a ship, and we'll probably hear more in a months time.

While I would call for more communication from CMoN in the guise of updates here, my experience of them during email communications has been nothing but first class. My understanding is that they finished the shipment of phase 1 (ie the game box proper) to all backers worldwide some time ago, although there were many backers who had failed (whether by design or error) to confirm their pledges in the CKPM, and so won't have been shipped anything yet, and of course it's perfectly possible that a few others might have slipped the net. Either way, contact with CMoN via email should (imho) resolve the problem fairly quickly.

The Kickstarter exclusives are nice and, while not the incredible deal I was dreaming of/expected when I backed the project, still a good price per content.

But there's still something to consider: I (and others, I'm guessing) do not have the game yet. As of now, I've absolutely nothing - not even word on when it will arrive. If I'd not backed the game and waited to purchase it, not only would I have received the game at the discount, but I'd have actually received the game.
