About this project

The Communikey Kickstarter campaign combines three important efforts that are essential to the future of Communikey.

If you are looking to give a pledge that is tax deductible, please email us at info@communikey.us or message us here on Kickstarter.

FESTIVAL

The CMKY 2012 festival will feature the most ambitious cross section of artistic disciplines of any Communikey production to date. Our 5th edition incorporates projects which share our vision of establishing a living network with other DIY creative collectives around the world.

Communikey Festival is a 5-day celebration of innovation in music and creativity that balances domestic and local talents with internationally recognized artists. As a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization, Communikey strives to bring forward thinking cutting edge arts to Boulder serving as a participatory platform for fostering collaboration and emerging art forms. Comprised of concerts, performances, exhibitions, installations, workshops and un-conferences throughout the city of Boulder. Our 5th edition of Communikey Festival will take place on April 25 - 29 2012 in Boulder, Colorado.

BUILDING OUR CAPACITY

Communikey is taking a leap to build stronger organizational capacity to support our year-round community building and festival design efforts. Traditionally, a 100% volunteer organization with less than a shoestring budget,  we see this Kickstarter as an opportunity to help jump start our efforts to build stable foundations for financing general expenses. This includes office space and offering reasonable payments to contributors who help keep this organization running year after year.

DOCUMENTARY

The CMKY documentary will function as a living tool kit for creative communities, beginning with 5 episodes, which explore how to collaborate and co create in a dynamic and changing world. Communikey supports this documentary in an effort to facilitate the emergence of sub cultures and DIY organizations both locally and globally. The primary goal of the documentary is to understand: What is presently unfolding in the world of forward thinking arts and sustainability. What are the implications of local and international communities working together implementing social, cultural and ecological innovation at a grassroots level? What new possibilities and opportunities are unleashed in these creative spaces? And finally, how might these new disciplined, interactive and immersive community environments, which focus on participative group collaboration; open up new spaces of social imagination that will allow us to re-evaluate our collective values and navigate the world as more effective and conscious leaders of today.

FAQ

  • There are three facets to this project,

    1 - Organization Development

    2 - CMKY 2012 Festival

    3 - Documentary Film

The Kickstarter revenue is being split between these three parts of our efforts - 30% to our organizational development, 30% to our festival, and 30% to the documentary film.

Given that we reach our goal of $12,000, this means an average of $3k USD will be applied towards each area of CMKY (after Kickstarter/Amazon fees & reward production costs)

Communikey is a Boulder-based interdisciplinary organization dedicated to social, cultural and ecological innovation through creative process. We facilitate forward thinking cultural experiences that emphasize the intersection of sound, design and technology in artistic forms that are under-represented. Communikey forges a creative exchange across cultures, backgrounds, and mediums while fostering the development of the local arts community.

Yes, And…? is a program that supports the sustainability efforts of the Communikey Festival and the broader arts advocacy organization of Communikey. We recognize that the importance of being a good environmental steward includes providing a culturally relevant voice to the arts community. In our effort to pursue a sustainable festival design, we must first understand our place within the dynamic systems that support diversity in life, culture, and perspective. It is of utmost importance for Communikey to maintain a commitment to ecologically sound and low-impact practices in order to preserve this diversity and enable others to continue pushing the boundaries of cultural expression.
