To continue to make our unique brand of of “pitch-perfect” (NY Post) and “wildly charming" (TONY) theater, we need YOUR help!
Less than a year ago - an incredibly talented ensemble of actors, writers, directors and designers founded Colt Coeur—a New York-based theater company dedicated to making original, story-driven, aggressively visceral theater that pulls you close and doesn’t let go.
2010 has been a terrific year for Colt Coeur. Our inaugural production, Seven Minutes in Heaven, was a New York Times and Time Out New York critic’s pick, and played to sold-out houses in New York and at The Huntington Theatre’s Emerging America Festival in Boston. The play - created through a collaboration with founding member Steven Levenson - has since been published by Playscripts and is receiving productions throughout the country.
We also launched Play Hotel, an ongoing reading series that serves as our principal arena for developing new work. For our first Play Hotel, nine company members gathered this summer in Williamstown, Massachusetts for four days of professional development. In September, I had the pleasure of directing Alena Smith’s Plucker, in a public reading at the CoCo studio that was packed to the gills! And for our October and November Play Hotel sessions, guest artist Lucas Kavner, and company members Kristen Connolly, Joe Tippett and I began collaborating on a brand new play. Based on that work, Colt Coeur is thrilled to announce Green, by Lucas Kavner, as our 2011 production! Our 2011 season will also include 6 public readings of new plays (to be announced soon!) and 3 additional ‘workshop’ weeks.
This spring we are excited to launch a Play Hotel educational initiative with Brooklyn middle-school students from the nearby Farragut Houses. We will invite students to spend their spring break in our DUMBO studio and engage them in a week-long play-making workshop with a team of Colt Coeur artists.
In addition to our artistic accomplishments, we built a Board who has been instrumental in overseeing the establishment of Colt Coeur’s infrastructure and strategic growth plan. We recently hired a part-time Managing Director, and have been working with a pro-bono lawyer to secure our 501(c)3 status.
It has been a tremendous start for Colt Coeur. In order to continue to make our unique brand of “pitch-perfect” (NY Post) and “wildly charming” (Time Out NY) theater, we need your help. If you believe, as we do, in the infinite potential of live theater to inspire compassion, humor, ferocity, and an unapologetic sense of wonder, please join me in making a gift today to our annual fund, and investing in the future of our company.
Our growth would be completely impossible without your contributions. Thank you in advance for your tremendous generosity!
