About this project
We've met the goal, BUT LET'S KEEP GOING!!
"What will we do with the money," you ask? Three things.
1. Make this project even more interactive and compelling. 2. Perhaps take the project to another city after its constructed in Orlando. 3. Start work on the next interactive art piece!
Watch this Update Video for more info!
The Piece : The "Tree of Light" will be constructed from recycled, reclaimed and local wood and will stand over 20 feet tall. Lights with a pull switch will be hanging from each of the tree branches. People are invited to interact with the piece by turning the lights on and off. Its our hope that participants will allow the light to reveal the fullness of who we are as well as the reality of the world around us.
The Philosophy : The project itself is all about connectivity. The ideation process is the result of a collection of artists who asked how we can use our creativity to help bring beauty to our city. Our desire is not only collaboration with one another but with those viewing the project. The piece invites individuals from simply being spectators to participants.
The Location : The tree will be placed for a period of time in a high traffic area of downtown Orlando as a locally created public art piece and then - depending on funding - set up in other cities.
The Funds : The money raised here will go to pay for the supplies required to create this project : wood, bulbs, sockets, electrical, projection, hardware and other supplies.
What if we raise extra money? If the goal is exceeded, we commit to continue to use the funds to create public art pieces that will invite the people of Orlando into a deeper experience and expression of creativity.
Also, thanks to United Arts of Central Florida for awarding this project a Professional Development Grant.

My passion for art stems, not only from its value in self-expression, but its ability to unite people in the process of creating. I’ve found that the best way to spark introspection is not simply to create a piece to be viewed. I desire to allow myself and others to explore and wrestle with the issues of life by creating alongside of one another.
Since we live in a relational world, all of the things we think, do, say or make are influenced by others. The ability to create simultaneously displays the beauty and difficulty of inviting others in. Collective work challenges participants to remain flexible and release their own agenda for the sake of the piece that will inevitably emerge.
