Chris graduated from Lehigh University in 2010 while Colby graduated from undergrad at Ursinus in 2007 and received his masters degree from ESU in 2010. The two began working together a year ago, Chris while working in NYC and Colby while working in Philadelphia. Since then, they've both dropped what they were doing and are pursuing their entrepreneurial dreams full time. They're now working together again, and working day in and day out shipping, designing, and promoting their young brand.
Folks, you back a project with the understanding that this product doesn't exist. I don't see why you are complaining that you don't have it yet. Manufacturing takes a long time.
My only complaints have been lack of info, which Chris and Colby have gotten much better about.
Raymond, as we've said in our last update, the final product is already on it's way to us. That means everything involved in making that happen has already been paid for by us. So no, we cannot simply cancel and offer refunds at this point. We appreciate your patience and apologize again for the inconvenience.
e.g. cancel the project and refund, so that every backers stop frustration; and you can save from 100 times our frustration?
if you don't mind, can I know any plan B instead of waiting you to waiting your manufactures?
Justin, we completely understand your frustration. Please take your own frustration and multiply it by 100 and you might begin to understand how we feel. We tried to leave enough time in our projection to make up for errors and delays, but the hard truth is that most Kickstarter projects are created by small companies or individuals who simply don't have the push with manufacturers (nor the resources) to hold them to their promises. If we had our own injection molding machine (and the expertise), we assure you the Koala Mounts would be out by now. Unfortunately, we're forced to rely on others for the actual manufacturing aspect of the project. All that being said, our previous update still stands, so don't expect anything to go out until mid June. Hope you're ok waiting a few more weeks, and as always we appreciate your patience and support!
Chris & Colby
First, this is an amazing idea that deserved to be funded. I really appreciate all of the updates but I pledged ths project over five months ago...c'mon guys get it together and get the product out to your backers! Once again, great idea but you need to ship the product ASAP. I'm tired of backing projects that miss the projected ship date by several months.
I tried to leave a message via the link you provided but I was blocked, my system thinks it is a phishing link. Please change my mount to black.
Thanks.
Barry and Jeff - we're working out some new details and hope to post an update by the end of the day today - as always, thanks again for your patience and your input!
I agree with the regular updates. Costs nothing, means everything
Good time to post an update. Good communication to Your backers is very important, and should be made at least every 2 weeks.
That's a perfectly reasonable answer. Any answer is better than no answer. Just keep us informed regularly and you'll hear a lot less grumbling. Really looming forward to the project.
Hey Dana,
The latest report from our manufacturer is that we will be getting the Koala Mounts towards the end of May. We will let you know as soon as we do what that exact date will be via an update. Sorry for the wait and we appreciate your patience.
Ok, now it's the end of April...can we get another update with expectations?
Ok, it's April, do you guys have an update of expectations?
Hey Raymond and Tyalis,
We are still looking at a late April shipment. We will try to give an update in the near future with more concrete information. Still working out the details for the packaging with the manufacturer. Thanks.
any update on shipping dates?
Hi chris and Colby,
Just checking in to see if there where any news on the shipping dates?
Excellent news, great simple idea that works. many congratulations on achieving your goal
Congrats on being funded!!!
Tyalis, hasn't anyone ever told you there is no such thing as a dumb question?! While we can't recommend you mount your Koala on an angled wall since we haven't tested it thoroughly, we're not going to say it wouldn't work. We went ahead and made a quick video for you http://youtu.be/edMZp1l91Uc .. hope that helps!
Hi Chris & Colby,
Yeah, me again, and with another dumb question!
How would the ipad react if the koala was put,... say on the ceiling above my 75° wall (yeah student room under a roof in paris have unusual wall configuration)...
Thinking of uping my pledge with a second chrome edition,
Congrats again !
I thought the koala mount is so neat, i just bought an ipad to go with it! Great product guys!
Tyalis, thanks for the compliments! Unfortunately, all we have now are prototypes, which don't give an accurate representation of the chrome finish, so it we can't provide any real pictures or videos. We're working on getting a rendering of the chrome finish with an iPad in it, however, which will hopefully give you a better idea of what it will look like. Of course, it's not as good as real pictures but it's the best we can do until manufacturing is complete.
As far as security, it would be near impossible to knock your iPad out of the brackets without physically pulling it up and out, so the only question is the strength of the Command strips when it comes to withstanding shock. I think you'll be surprised to see how strong they really are, and you'd need to hit it quite hard to knock one of the brackets off the wall.
If it makes you feel better, I've had a Dockem on my headboard for the past year and a half and it gets hit all the time by pillows and such, and it's still going strong :-)
As always, thanks for your support and your comments, we love hearing from you!
(o and by the way, a bought one of your dockem for iphone, very nifty design to, you guys are realy inventive!)
Hi Chris & Colby, i was wondering if you could make a photo (or short video) to show how the ipad looks in the white and chrome version side by side? Also, is the chrome version very susceptible to fingerprint? It is always a concerned for chrome/glossy design and even if it looks great originally it quickly becomes icky...
And lastly, would you qualify the mount as very secure (relative to shock) or it is just a storing mount (I plan to install one near my bed so it my be indavertly hit).
Anyway, I love the idea obviously, but i love even more the attention ported to the backers!
Kevin, unfortunately I don't think it will work with the Apple iPad 1 cover. When we say snug, it's really a perfect fit. You see, we wanted it to work well with both the iPad 1 and the iPad 2, and if we made it any wider it would no longer be ideal for the iPad 2. Hope that helps.
Will the Koala mount fit an iPad 1 with the original apple case on it? I noticed that its meant to fit snuggly with a naked iPad 1, so I guess I'm just curious to know if it will fit at all with the apple case on it.
Thanks Greg! We'll send out a survey at the end of funding where you'll be able to tell us what you were intending to order with your pledge.
Congrats guys. Not sure how to let you know that I changed my pledge from $50 to $60 for the reason that I would like two sets of the chrome. I couldn't see anywhere to note this.
Tyalis, yes, technically speaking the Koala Mount will "work" with the naked iPhone, but to be honest it's not ideal. The Koala Mount is designed to go with the contour of the iPads and as a result the iPhone doesn't rest in it as nicely. However, our first Kickstarter project, the Dockem, was actually designed with smartphones in mind - and it works great with a case as well. You can check that out at our site: www.dockem.com.
HI, me again, and if it is compatible, with or without bumper?
Is the koala mount compatible with the iphone 4? I would love to store my ipad and my iphone side by side.
Congrats! Greetings from a Backer from Vienna, AUSTRIA!
Concrats on reaching the goal with 21 days to go! :D
Chris, you most certainly can reuse the mount. The adhesive is not reusable, but if you get extra adhesives you can move it as much as you want.
After you remove the mount from the wall, can it be reused again?
Anne, $30 at the early bird level is good for 3 Koala Mounts. Not exactly sure about the rooCase, but our guess is that unfortunately it will be too thick. We designed the Koala Mount to provide a tighter fit, so it really only works with slimmer cases on the iPad 2.
To clarify, if I want to pre-order 3 mounts, do I pledge a total of $30, or the initial $10 plus $30 for the mounts? Also, I would love to see it it chrome. Would a leather case such as the rooCase fit in this mount?
Looks good guys. Hope to see a black variant if all goes well. Good luck.
Adam, for now we are definitely going with white, as most people are more worried about it blending with their walls when not in use. Unfortunately, another color plastic requires another production run, which of course means a bunch more money. However, if this project is successful enough we hope to offer black as well (and maybe others!).
I would like to see it in black instead of white, to blend in a bit more with my black iPad. Are you guys set on white? Do you guys plan on doing it in different colors?
Thanks for the support Avigayil! We agree with all your points :-)
Very nice idea, simplistic but well executed. I think one for the kitchen is a great idea, can cook from recipes on my iPad without worrying about getting the iPad dirty from flour, etc all over the counters. Also one for the bathroom is nice, more for watching movies while having a nice bubble bath. :-)
