I'm finally in Kampala with the rest of our team! It has been such a pleasure meeting everyone! We have a wonderful cast and crew here, along with great support from our co-presenters at the National Theater.
As I write, I am watching the tech-through of our opening sequence. Today is the first day of rehearsal in the Theater, and the cast is in awe of the set Shannon designed and loaded in with our Technical Director, Alex, through the weekend. I'll upload some photos tomorrow!
We're working on programming our lighting cues. To light the play, we're using the 12 functioning instruments in the theater, along with 6 or 7 work lamps and clip lights that Shannon brought from the US.
Emily opened rehearsal with the cast's now regular warmup, followed by a brief introduction to language used during tech. We have no PA system, so between Shannon and JB (our Stage Manager), light cues are entered by shouting from the center of the house up to the balcony booth.
Deborah may be able to stay through the week, and join us for the opening weekend! This would be great news; she was expecting to return to work in New York for the Sundance Institute, but they are willing to allow her to stay with us a bit longer.
Our posters are hung all over the Theatre and surrounding block. Later today, I'll be meeting with Aggrey (our co-producer with Nyonyonzi Cultural Troupe) to discuss plans for a press conference on Friday, and upcoming media releases.
