Greetings Backers! You were here to help us launch a little over a year ago and have been so thrilled with the past year that we wanted to update you where we are now at in our civic journey.
One year ago this week, in an effort to give back to our community in Raleigh, we deployed some simple wayfinding signs around Raleigh depicting "how many minutes it takes to walk places". The signs were focused on shifting the conversation about how downtown Raleigh is growing, (we did nearly double in size over the past 10 years!). As more and more folks live closer and closer together in and around Raleigh, we are going to have to start building our city for not only cars, but people too. We did not ask permission to hang the signs and made sure to produce the signs in a professional manner so they did not stand out.
Not soon after the signs went up, were they featured on The Atlantic, BBC News, NPR, Bloomberg and a slue of other national and international media outlets. The project titled Walk Raleigh quickly turned into another Kickstarter campaign called Walk [Your City], which we are now using to scale our initial project into a hybrid, online/offline civic startup focused on shaping vibrant, safe people-oriented places. Enjoy! Check it out on our site HERE!
