This is our first, published info about how we are building Walk [Your City], and we wanted you all to be the first to check it out. You all have helped us get to this point and truly value any and all feedback you are willing to provide us on the bottom of the project page, right here!

PS. We know you all have been waiting for close to a year for Walk [Your City] to move past downloadable templates - so, we are excited to announce that our Beta will be launching in April and you, as a backer, will be the first to test it out.. so keep an ear out!

See you on the sidewalk!

2012 Year in Review & Beyond

Update #12 · Jan 25, 2013 · comment

Greetings Backers!

This year has been an incredible journey for us here at CityFabric, taking the next step in our civic journey, instigating Walk Raleigh and developing Walk [Your City]. These projects have gained national and international attention, ultimately catapulting us into the national conversation about how we are shaping our future cities

We set out to build the WYC platform during the summer once we received your support and realized that the project was a lot more difficult than originally expected. After a number of failures, we decided to take a few steps back and explore the possibilities of what this platform would actually look like as a business. We have had in depth conversations with huge health care companies, walkability focus startups and mayors. We even traveled to Venice to represent the US at the Venice Beinnale as one of 100 different projects that were part of the "Spontaneous Interventions" American exhibit. After exploring and understand the potential of Walk [Your City], we are coming out the other end confident and excited for 2013 - ready to put your backer dollars (yes, we still have the money minus cost of rewards and fees in the account) to work and build a civic 2.0 platform that will help deliver the message and activity of walkability that we all want to hear and see throughout our nations blossoming cities.

So...with our momentum from 2012 (pictured below), we are embarking on a new journey and venture in 2013, scaling Walk [Your City] into a new civic startup.

Rewards Shipped! Walk Raleigh representing the US and Templates!

Update #11 · Aug 8, 2012 · comment

Exciting news Backers - all the rewards have shipped! (AND we have core resources up on our site!)

The tees and signs were a bit overdue so we really appreciate your patience. Depending on where you are in the US, the final rewards should be showing up over the next 5-15 days (longer if overseas).

Please check out our interim website to find out what has been going on. We are a bit behind schedule after taking a few steps backwards at the beginning of July, but not without gaining some valuable know-how.

Cities, organizations and citizens continue to reach out daily.  We now have a few core resources available at walkyourcity.org for anyone to download and use.

Walk Raleigh received a notable mention (even though we did not win, the comments from the jury humbled us) in the CORE 77 Designs Awards which we are pretty pumped about AND will be included at the American Pavilion for the Venice Biennale starting in September.

We can't thank you all enough for providing us the confidence and support to move forward. We truly look forward to sharing our Walk [Your City] online civic tool with YOU, before anyone else.

Thanks so much!

Matt

The answer to the WYC stickers!

Update #10 · Jul 13, 2012 · 1 comment

Backers!

Exciting to see all the $15 and $25 backers receiving their rewards! (The rest will ship out early next week). We have received a few questions about the stickers so I thought I would share a helpful pic below - the stickers are die-cut vinyl so they can be applied to the outside of say, a car window, or on your laptop and last for a REALLY long time (even in the sun!).

The key to application is removing the back, sticking it! and then removing the front. You will see that the sticker is only the purple color which we thought was a nice touch!

All the best!

Matt
