A new independent 2-D fighting game set in an industrial steampunk world, with gameplay designed for casual and veteran fighting gamers
Hey everyone, we are Circular Geometry Studios, a small company of independent video game developers from Orlando, Florida. We formed our company because we are all passionate about video games and wanted to create something special. Our love for games, especially fighting games, led us to dream up the idea for a game called GildenTide. Our idea was to create a game that not only had the gameplay we love from our favorite fighting games like the Street Fighter Alpha series, but to create a unique game world centered around a steampunk inspired British landscape. After seeing that a small group like the developers of the video game Skullgirls can indeed create a fighting game, we gathered more talented people who wanted to see this vision become a reality. Now, we are ready to show you what we have so far and what's on the horizon!
GildenTide features a 2-D style of gameplay utilizing 3-D models, much like how Street Fighter 4 displays their characters. The game is being developed in the Unity 3D engine for PC, XBOX Live Arcade, and Playstation Network. As of right now, we are working with GGPO, one of the best network codes for fighting games available, to ensure that our online play is as smooth as possible.
Controls for the game feature a 5 button system, consisting of 2 punches, 2 kicks, and a 5th button called Insight. Players will be able to execute regular attacks by hitting these buttons as well as special moves that use a series of joystick movements plus button presses.
Keeping with our theme, the typical super bar that you expect from a traditional fighter is replaced with an old school pocket watch called the Watch Gauge. It fills up just like a super bar, but will light up in a clockwise manner from 12 o'clock as you land and take hits. The Watch Gauge allows players to launch high powered versions of special moves and super moves that can only be done when you have enough of the watch gauge filled. Earlier titles like Street Fighter Alpha 3 allowed the player to choose from 3 different fighting styles for their character. GildenTide also allows you this customization in the form of 3 different Watch Gauges. Each watch will present the player with a different set of tools, ranging from options to attack while blocking to giving an attack boost from filling up the gauge!
Guard crush, or the ability to stun a player that is blocking too much, is represented by pipes that fill up with red steam when a player blocks. Block too much and the steam will release with a whistling fury, leaving you prone to the enemy's attack! Players will also be able to access a 2nd steam filled bar that will fill with blue steam as the player fights on. This bar, called the Breakthrough bar, will give players the ability to completely cancel out of an attack for defensive purposes or to create custom combo attacks! We hope that these features will help to make a community for this game to be played competitively.
GildenTide brings forth a cast of
characters ranging from brass robots to folks wielding gear-equipped
weapons and everything in between! The 5th Insight button is uniquely
special for every characters and will allow for a large diversity of
special moves. From installing pieces of armor in the heat of battle to a
selection of specific counter attacks, the insight button leaves a
realm of possibilities for characters. Plus, who wouldn't have fun
beating up their friends using gear covered contraptions and zeppelin
pirates with steam powered limbs? We understand that sometimes fighting
games are a bit hard to practice and get the swing of. GildenTide will
feature a variation of training mode that will help gamers who are new
to the fighting game genre understand and master the advanced
techniques. We know it's extremely frustrating to play a game and
struggle with controls and learning all the in's and out's. We hope to
de-mystify many of the complicated fighting game moves and make it
fluid, easy, and fun to play.
Why we need your help!
GildenTide is a project with a large scope and will require a large amount of manpower to perfect and fine tune the gameplay to what we want. Currently, our group has been working on this as much as we can and would love to devote more time and effort into finishing it! The game is going to not only be a way of contributing to the recent resurgence of fighting games, but also as a way to show that small development groups can indeed create a fighting game on par with traditional ones. Our fighting game community in Orlando is still growing, and with the recent arrival of the Community Effort Orlando tournament, we are entering a new phase of growth for old and new players alike.The studio is still just a small group devoting themselves to this labor of love. All funding up until this point has come directly from volunteer hours and from our own pockets. We will continue to work on GildenTide at the rate we have been going, but having funding will allow us to fully devote our time to bringing you this game the fastest we can without sacrificing our vision.

What your money goes towards
100% of your funds will go towards the following:
- Software and development costs
- Help us get the game to PC, XBOX Live, and PSN
- Full development of the first phase of the project. This includes a 4 character cast ready for showcase at CEO2012 in Orlando, Florida.
- Legal costs with licensing and other areas
- Other software to enhance sounds, music composition, and other game aspects
If we go over 100%, then you guys rock and I owe you all a high five! Seriously, if you see me anywhere, claim your high five. Any extra funding will pay for the following:
- Bringing in extra help to speed up our development time
- Convention display and fees, complete with a custom GildenTide arcade cabinet, to bring to game conferences and fighting game tournaments
- Advertising and website costs
- Adding more stages and characters to the game roster faster and ready for beta testing. Our goal is a full 16 character roster with about 12 unique stages
- Pretty much anything else we can do to further improve this next-gen fighter
