Shooting a Music Video for FALLEN, a book by Lauren Kate. Goal is to have this song used in the movie coming out from Disney.
THE PROJECT:
Okay, so the project is simply this: I will be filming and directing a music video to one of my own self written and recorded songs. This video concept was inspired by a young adult novel called FALLEN by Lauren Kate, so it could be considered that my music video is fan made for FALLEN. My song is called "While you're Sleeping." There is a clip of this song in my video above- play it and listen! :)
I am doing this because I really believe that my song fits this story very well. When I first fell in love with the FALLEN Series, I often thought about my song "While You're Sleeping" because the way the main character felt about the potential love prospect mirrored how I had felt in the past myself in a previous romance. The lyrics communicate the frustration felt by the main character and the mystery behind the strong connection. Also, musically, it embraces the theme of the story, with the angelic background vocals and different instruments used in the song including the strings and cello.
I thought that perhaps, someday this book would be made into a movie because it was that good. A couple of months ago, I heard that a movie studio production company (big name but not saying anything about that here) has purchased the rights to made this book int o a film. I would love to see it used in the movie soundtrack. Having a well produced music video will help get the idea across on how well suited for the movie my song would be.
What a perfect opportunity KickStarter could give me. But I can't wait much longer to get this video into the right hands, as music production and composing is usually done months before hand.
I will be shooting this video on June 9th and 10th near Yosemite Park, CA. I have the storyboard and concepts done, and have most of the crew/actors lined up. Since this will be happening very soon, I do not have a lot of time to get it funded. That is why this KickStarter page, and your support is so important.
WHY I CAN DO THIS:
I filmed my first music video when I was twelve, to Haddaway's "What is Love?", using a dinosaur Panasonic VHS video camera and a tape deck for sound effects. Technology wasn't very kind to me back then but I still made my videos and my point. I also filmed a music video to OneRepublic's "Good Life" and Kelly Ali's "Fellow Man". Making my own music videos to songs really gave me a perspective to how much I enjoyed merging two of my most beloved art forms- music and film.
I co-wrote and recorded an album with my own songs, sang, mixed and mastered the tracks, but never have I filmed a music video to my own work. This will be a first and I am very excited to be doing this.
ADDITIONAL BENEFITS TO THIS PROJECT:
By completing this video I will also obtain more experience working with video and music collaboration. My goals in life include being able to work in music and video, so this project will go into my portfolio which I will then be able to share with others. It will also help me land more projects to help me further my experience and training and help produce another skilled person in this field.
WHY YOU ARE KEY TO THIS PROJECT:
I will not be able to produce the necessary quality for this project without your help. It is as simple as that. To me, this is more than just making a video. Its the chance to put my music out there and get onto the silver screen. Something that I have had as a dream for over two decades. I would love to me able to sell the rights to my song and have it be used in the movie. I feel that it was a very powerful song that has been wasted and unheard and this could be the chance to put it in the spotlight.
Imagine going to the movies and hearing the song play, you would probably get chills knowing that you- yes YOU - helped put that song there and that you made a difference for someone and their music.
WHAT THE FUNDING WILL BE USED FOR:
I will be renting higher end cameras to capture the shots, in addition to standard video equipment- tripods, media cards, etc. I will also need computer video editing software that is more professional than iMovie, and an upgraded computer.
Most of the items I need for this video including people, props, location, etc is being provided at no cost or for a very small price, and therefore I will be able to save quite a bit on the overall budget. I will personally fund any additional funds that may be needed above the $2200 amount. That is why I encourage you to continue backing up this project even if you see that it has reached its goal, because the $2200 will not cover this project in full (although it will be a majority of it).
