60,000 people enjoyed L.A.'s first CicLAvia car-free festival on 10-10-10. We're back+looking to do 3-4 CicLAvias in 2011!

CicLAvia is a free family street festival - based on the original ciclovia in Bogota, Colombia. On Sundays, some streets are closed to cars, and bicyclists, pedestrians, skaters, and wheelchair users take over.

L.A.'s first CicLAvia was held October 10th, 2010. It included 7.5 miles of L.A. streets - from East Hollywood to MacArthur Park to Downtown to Little Tokyo to Boyle Heigts. More than 60,000 Angelenos came out and played, biked, explored, walked and enjoyed the city. Participants remarked on how small our city seemed that day, and how quiet, fun and happy Los Angeles can be when we leave our cars behind for a few hours. All kinds of folks felt comfortable walking and riding in the streets that day - families, young, old, black, Latino, Asian, white, beginner, pro.

At CicLAvia we're really happy with our earlier successful Kickstarter campaign, so we're back - counting on our past kickstartistas and our new friends to lift us into multiple CicLAvia events in 2011. We're planning three similar central Los Angeles events and potentially expanding onto new streets near you!

CicLAvia has four main goals:
- promote green transportation - especially walking, bicycling, transit.
- promote public health - bringing healthy physical activity to communities in need
- promote local business - bringing foot traffic
- promote public space - helping Angelenos see our streets as a space where we can all come together and take pride in our city

(Special thanks to Will Campbell - for creating a great time-lapse video of the 10-10-10 CicLAvia!)
