About this project
CicLAvia is planning to expand! We're going from 7.5 miles to 10.5 miles!
CicLAvia makes select L.A. streets will safe for people to walk, skate, play and ride a bike. With two hugely successful CicLAvia events under our belt, we are currently preparing for Los Angeles’ next couple ”open-street” event: Sunday October 9th. Seven and a half miles of streets were car-free from 10am-3pm on October 10th 2010 and April 10th 2011. At each CicLAvia an estimated 100,000 folks walked, biked, skated and mostly smiled! CicLAvia is a joint event hosted by the non-profit CicLAvia and the city of Los Angeles. For more info, see ciclavia.org
On October 9th 2011, we’re doing the initial 7.5-mile route again, and reaching out to new neighborhoods and adding new spurs. October 9th will include a 1.5-mile south spur from downtown through the Fashion District, nearly to South L.A. and a 1.5-mile north spur connecting to Chinatown and El Pueblo.
Your contribution goes to hosting CicLAvia - this includes everything from outreach, to printing, to signage, to portapotties, to valet bike parking, to more!

The CicLAvia organization is a broad-based community coalition that is working to establish a comprehensive, region-wide program that addresses key issues facing Los Angeles. The grassroots, volunteer-driven movement has found support from individuals, organizations, and government agencies that cover a broad spectrum. The CicLAvia steering committee includes members from diverse backgrounds, including bicycle and public space advocacy, graphic design, urban and environmental planning, arts and culture, event production, journalism, and engineering. This coalition’s objective is to institute substantial policy changes that allow Southern Californians to reclaim the streets and make active use of existing public infrastructure.
