Update #5: Restarted The Time Travel Survival Guide!
I started this project and made the mistake of having a 30 day deadline, as well as no time to promote it. I got more than halfway, and time ran out. I waited until I had some more time, and now I've restarted the project here:

Come on by and back it. I'll send you some great gifts!

Update #4: Time Travel Survival Guide Project
Update #3: 39 Hours To Go, Oh Nos!
Oh no - There's only 39 hours left and I don't think I'm going to make it. I've emailed everyone I know, Tweeted and Blogged and Facebooked and LinkedIned and begged. While I'm trying to drum up a few dozen backers, Sarah Palin is out pulling in crowds for her "book." Maybe I need to lose some weight, get some cool eyeglasses, wear $1,500 outfits and insult community organizers. But I'm not bitter!
Kickstarter has been awesome, with several Kickstarter people actually pledging to my project, and then putting the Time Travel Survival Guide on the home page and then as yesterday's Project of the Day. I am truly grateful for their support.
Several backers have posted on their blogs and contacted people they know. Again, I can't tell you how much I appreciate the support. Special thanks go to Tellman Knudson for his $1,000 pledge and his blog post about the Guide. Tellman is running across the U.S. - barefoot! - for charity. Check it out here: http://runtellmanrun.com/
In case you want to pledge in order to get copies of the Time Travel Survival Guide for friends and family for the holidays, since I probably won't be finished and the guide printed by December 25, just email me at chuck@chucklasker.com with your mailing address and the recipient's name and, if the project completes funding, I'll mail you a cool personalized gift card that tells the recipient what they'll receive!
I'll close by asking one more time for your help spreading the word. With 39 hours to go, who knows what can happen!!
Your friend,
Chuck Lasker

Update #2: How would you optimize your time travel trip?
There are five legitimate methods of optimizing your visit if you're thrust back in time. I dedicate a chapter in the Time Travel Survival Guide to each one.
1. Gambling – Use your knowledge of what's going to happen to either gamble or invest (pretty much the same thing).
2. Inventing – You can "invent" any invention that has not come out yet in the time you land.
3. Crime – Today’s criminal is so much more sophisticated than in the past. Many methods of crime are invented each year. Knowing how to commit crimes in the past, using today’s methods, means there is almost no chance of being caught. (I include politics in this section.)
4. Career – You can be a master of any profession with your advanced knowledge of the subject.
5. God or prophet – If you play your cards right, you can be seen as a god. This could be quite fun and profitable, but also is the most dangerous if you get discovered to be a fraud.
A sixth method, Fortune Teller/Magician, is simple, but embarrassing, so I will not spend any time on it. I mean, who wants to have to wear those silly robes and act all flaky?
I will spend a chapter on each of these. I suggest you prepare for them all, in case you try one and don’t like it. Remember, normal rules will not apply to you – you are an advanced being back in time. You RULE!
Update #1: Time to Go Back in Time!
This is my first project on Kickstarter and I am learning a lot. First, I learned that I should have put a longer ending date on my project. I did not know it couldn't be edited later. Second, I learned that only a few friends would actually back my project! I truly expected more response!
So, I need your help, and I need it fast! I only have until November 23rd to get fully funded, or the whole project simply dies. Even a dollar helps because it makes the project more popular.
Please Tweet about my project. This is a suggested Tweet:

If you have any other ideas for promoting my project, I would appreciate it.
Cheers!

It's too bad, because I really like the concept. Seems like you need to find some new, creative ways to promote it beyond your own friends. How about a teaser video showing all the ways that famous time travelers have messed up? Or promoting it to the various scifi forums/blogs? Maybe take a look at some of the other recommended writing projects for ideas, like Robin Sloan's project. Good luck!

Thanks, Andy.
Robin's project inspired most of what I have done, but I'll look at it again and also his suggestions for Kickstarter success. I'll try your other ideas, too. I appreciate the support!
