I wish to paint 25-30 works this summer in the tradition of impressionist plein air painting of the early 1900's on Cape Cod.

Hello, my name is Chris Gillis.  Over the past three years I have been studying and painting in the impressionist style. I work as a graphic designer during the day, and pick up the brushes at night, and on the weekends. With your help I can paint 25-30 paintings this summer.

Summary of the Project

I want to paint in the style of great artists such as Charles Hawthorn, Hans Hofmann, Mark Rothko, Henry Hensche, Norman Rockwell and the thousands of students that traveled to Cape Cod in the early 1900's. I will take six weeks this summer, away from my commercial graphic design job, and paint 'en plein air' (out in the open air) landscapes each day to produce 25-30 final paintings.

How I will work

During July and August, I will focus on painting early morning and late afternoon landscapes to capture the quality of light that so many artists have sought before me. I will be documenting my days with photographs and journal entries that will be published daily on the project website.

Funds

Where will the money be used?  Some of the funds will be used for materials and gas to get down to the lower Cape everyday. I'll need oil paint, canvas, brushes and other art supplies.  Some more of the funds will be used for production costs of the prints, books and postcards. Your pledges will also allow me to take six weeks off from my graphic design job to solely focus on painting (something I've always wanted to do).

The Paintings

All works will be oil paint on 3/4" Profile Stretched Canvas in a variety of sizes and can be hung framed, or non-framed. 

Leftover paintings from this project will be auctioned off locally, and the proceeds will be given to an existing art scholarship for a Nauset High School art student.
