About this project
The Album
I am so excited to release "Waking Dreams," my first full-length album as a composer and bandleader. The music on the album takes the listener on a journey from darkness and turmoil, through a series of revelations and a release, into joy, peace, and happiness. A central theme recurs throughout, serving as a reminder of where the journey began and reflecting its progress along the way. The album features memorable melodic themes, beautiful shifting harmonies, and seamless transitions, all carefully orchestrated and executed by an ensemble of vibraphone, saxophone, trumpet, piano and rhodes, bass, and drums. Flute, bass clarinet, and special ambient sounds come up at choice moments. I've been so fortunate to develop this music over several live performances and a culminating studio recording with the musicians in the band, who all put so much effort, care, and soul into the music.

Your Participation
It means so much to me to be able to share the process of making the album with YOU. By pre-ordering advance copies of Waking Dreams and pledging your support, you are helping me pay for recording, mixing, mastering, artwork and design, and manufacturing the CDs. By meeting the fundraising goal, we will be able to release a state of the art recording tracked and mixed by some of the best audio engineers in New York City.
By pledging in advance through this page, you'll get the inside scoop about the album's progress and all things related to it, before and as it happens, plus exclusive access to the music in advance of its public release. The album makes a great gift - please consider ordering several copies :) Also, feel free to email me about substituting rewards above the $150 level. I look forward to hearing from you soon - please spread the word!
Special Note
We've surpassed the funding goal! But it's not over - there is no limit to the amount that we can raise. Please know that:
- 100% of the funds raised go to making this album as good as it can be
- The vast majority of the rewards are only available for purchase through this website, and will not be possible to order after January 18th (except the album of course!)
- It's now a sure thing that the project will be funded and completed, as we've raised the minimum amount needed for that
- The costs of producing an album are large, and every little bit of your support counts!

Chris Dingman is a vibraphonist and composer based in Brooklyn, NY. Schooled in the jazz tradition, yet influenced by a wide range of music and experience, Dingman draws inspiration and meaning from a diverse set of musical sources, uniting them in a progressive approach that has earned him praise for his “poignant work” (David Sprague, Variety), his “adaptive humility” (Nate Chinen, NY Times), and as “downright hypnotic” (John Barron, All About Jazz).
