Funding Successful
This project successfully raised its funding goal on January 13.
Pledge $1 or more Pledge $1 or more
Much gratitude expressed in the form of a large & colorful hand-printed postcard with an equally colorful quotation.
Pledge $5 or more Pledge $5 or more
Much gratitude; the large, colorful & aforementioned hand-printed postcard; and an equally colorful limited edition print designed by the inventor/designer/printer, me.
Pledge $35 or more Pledge $35 or more
15 internationally known artists (see list at left in "About This Project") whose work all involves lettering in some form or fashion have graciously offered their designs (many original for this project) that I will letterpress print in a limited edition, each print signed by the artist. Backers may have their choice of prints for a $35 pledge. A $70 pledge merits the choice of two prints and so on. Please note, personalized holiday gift notices are available so you may share the spirit of your gift with its recipient in a timely manner.
Pledge $500 or more Pledge $500 or more
All 15 prints enclosed in a special folio meant to house the prints complete with a title page & colophon (a credits page), the latter of which would list the $500+ backers' names.
Pledge $1,000 or more Pledge $1,000 or more
2 complete sets of prints. Perhaps you would like to purchase a set for an institution or another individual. Please let us honor your gift by sharing the intended recipient's name and it too will be included in colophon.
Pledge $2,500 or more Pledge $2,500 or more
2 sets of all 15 prints (one to keep, the other to share), the donor's name as an 'Executive Sponsor,' and a set of 15 Ink Dial units that I will come personally deliver, set up and show you how to work. If you don't have a need for the Ink Dial set yourself, you may designate an institution of your choosing as the recipient. I'll be happy to travel wherever they are (within reason) and set them up.

Connected as Terry Chouinard (1273 friends)
Terrence Chouinard began making books by hand as a child, began printing professionally in 1990, and has worked at Pyramid Atlantic, Rare Book School & the Library of Congress. In 2000 he began working at Wells College where he dedicated himself to teaching, printing, and administrating one of the nation’s premier undergraduate book arts programs. He also worked for his heroes Michael & Winifred Bixler as a typecaster, compositor, pressman, proofreader & web master at their press & letterfoundry in Skaneateles, where he learned everything about casting type & making fine books they don't teach in graduate school. He now lives & works in Athens, Alabama, where he runs his own freelance design & fine printing business. When he's not designing or printing books, he's thinking about designing or printing books.
Hi Terry. How's the Ink Dial doing?
Are there any plans on selling more of it? Would love to get one over here in Europe :)
I want to add my "Yaa HOO!" to everybody else's. I'm so glad the project was funded and really look forward to seeing the print choices. -- Wishing you strength, stamina, healthy eating, and a good night's sleep as you proceed with fulfilling this project.
Hey Cody & all, I was planning on doing that today of all days. I have a new reward to post from Carl Rohrs and some more details of my progress. Thanks for checking in!
Terrence, Give us an update! I would love to see what other artists have put together.
cody
Hey Adrienne. I do need to post an update about this very question. And I'll tend to it soon, but let me see if I can begin to answer it here for you. The artwork is slowly trickling in from the artists. I am posting each print as I receive them. Kickstarter only allows me to send one survey out to each group of backers. So when all the prints are posted online I will send out a survey to everyone asking for your address & choice of prints. I'll tally up those numbers and know how many of each design I need to print.
Meanwhile the next iteration of the Ink Dial is at the fabricators incorporating the many improvements I dreamt up but couldn't afford to implement in my original Mark 1 design. Couldn't afford, that is until you all helped this Kickstarter succeed! Thanks again.
Hello- I am excited to have supported your project and congrats. Was just wondering if you have all print selections to choose for us $35 pledgers or it's in the works? I haven't made my choice and not sure how you are planning to provide that for us. Looking forward to a great print, and of course the progress of the Ink Dial.
That extra penny was all me. Donated $5.01.
Nina, of course you can! In fact, the smaller rewards are part & parcel of the larger rewards. I guess I didn't make that clear. This is the wonderful thing about being a printer; you can print however much you want of whatever you want. I'd avoid printing currency though. That can produce some unexpected side effects like imprisonment.
Don't know what I can say to that Bilfe except thank you for your support. Yes, two anonymous pledges posted in the last five minutes. Wasn't me or anyone I know; Kickstarter makes it pretty clear they don't allow that and have ways to uncover such chicanery. All I know is I can proceed and breathe again. All I can say is this public fundraising crap ain't for sissies. I don't recommend it.
wait... how the...? Some charitable-ass magic just occured 'round here.
I've known Terry Chouinard my entire life . Not only is he amazingly talented with the arts, but he is an extremely honest and upstanding man who is respected by all who know him. It is honor to know Terry and support his innovative ideas. If I had the money, I would've pledged $35,000 personally to support this brilliant man that I am proud to call my dear friend!
Hey Terry, I just pledged $40, can I have the $35 reward and the $5 reward? I <3 art
I don't know Terry at all- but after speaking to him about his ideas and his methodology, I 100% can say I stand behind his project. I hope more of you will pledge and help make this a reality!
Looking forward to your huge success!
I second everything Mark has said, along with knowing Terry for many years, and knowing that he has the expertise, understanding of what is needed, work ethic, and know-how to do this, and a great deal more.
Terry is a smart puppy, and I believe that his design for the Ink Dial is a smart one as well. The device has been built out of years of experience and refined during many hours of hard work. I want to give him the chance to make it happen. He has reached a point where he needs some coin to move to the next step and I am more than happy to encourage him to get there.
