Update #10: Thank You, Everyone!
Thank you for your support of Always a Bridesmaid. Really and sincerely, your generosity and enthusiasm was amazing. Unfortunately, it didn't work out this time, as we fell far short of our goal.
However, awesome indie horror-comedy shall roll on! Although the Kickstarter campaign didn't garner the funds we need, we will continue to save and raise money for this project, and hopefully go into production on it within the next 3-6 months. Long term, we've got our first feature film, SATAN CAMP, in the works. In addition, we hope to be working on various projects for clients in the coming months, as well.
Interested in hearing more about foulmouthed puppets, drunken kitchen experiments, time machines, and nude women possessed by Satan? Stay in touch!
There are two great ways to do this. One, join our Facebook group if you haven't already:
http://bit.ly/4gVHDm
Two, if you hate Facebook or just don't want to join our group BUT still want to stay in touch, send an email here with the subject line "SUBSCRIBE" and we'll add you to our list.
If you're in New York CIty and really are dying to give us your money, you still can! We hold a regular, somewhat illegal bar night in Brooklyn called the Smith Street Speakeasy, featuring classic cocktails with the best ingredients, in a sophisticated home atmosphere, for about half what you'd pay at the fancy NYC mixology bars. All profits go directly to getting Charred Oak's film projects off the ground. The next one is coming up in a couple of weeks, and the Facebook group or email list will give you the details.
Thanks again, from the bottom of our kooky little hearts, for your interest and support in our work. We'll be in touch!
Update #9: Thursday Thursday Thursday!
Help us spread the word, and join us tomorrow to ask us questions, make requests for live rewards, and watch us generally make fools of ourselves!

Update #8: Watch Our LIVE Webathon This Thursday!
Update #7: THURSDAY OCTOBER 1st...It's On.
Mark your calendars. This Thursday, the 1st of October, Charred Oak Films will be hosting a live, 12-hour webathon to drum up support for ALWAYS A BRIDESMAID and likely reveal many things about ourselves. (And I'm not just talking about skin, either.) Watch it here:
We'll take our pitch directly to you, live, while also hosting a few special guests and presentations. We'll also be able to speak directly to you by chat, email, and phone. You can make requests! We will introduce instant-gratification rewards for pledges, and we are certain to embarrass ourselves on-camera multiple times! Stay tuned for details...
We're doing it all because we care about our crazy short film, and we really want to make it.
This is no reason to wait to make your pledge, however! Pledge now, as we promise we will honor each and every one of our backers so far, live on-camera on Thursday. All other super-awesome rewards and incentives still apply!
Thanks for all your support, and please continue to propagate our links, post to your Facebook and Twitter feeds, and talk us up. It really matters, and we really appreciate it.
Update #6: Let Other People Convince You to Pledge
We've been receiving some very nice coverage in some great blogs recently. Take a look and let OTHERS convince you with their superior logic and enthusiasm:
CRWM makes a case for us on the basis of artistic independence and new ideas:
http://bit.ly/2eyAsy
The super-cool women-in-horror collective Chainsaw Mafia cries for collective action:
http://bit.ly/C8Z1D
And Kickstarter themselves gave us a shout-out, too...scroll to the bottom:
http://bit.ly/lWNLd
We'll need to average more than $750 a day from here on to make our goal. We still believe, and so should you! Thanks for the pledges so far, but what we really need now is some continued help shouting it from the mountaintops, whether they be digital or literal. Thanks for your support!
Update #5: In Which We Promise, Yet Again, To Take Off Our Clothes
Hello, everyone! Enjoy this video update from Katie, our co-producer and costume designer, with a reminder of a new incentive. To have a fighting chance to make our goal, we MUST reach the halfway mark before the end of this month. Thanks for everything so far, and as always please contact us with questions, requests, and comments!
Update #4: New Incentives!
With just under 30 days to go in our campaign, we wanted to increase the stakes a bit. In ALWAYS A BRIDESMAID, our screenwriter and co-producer both play the roles of Lance and Bill, two very unlikely male strippers. (This is the "sex," albeit comic and highly unconventional, to go along with the movie's well-described giddy violence!)
If we can reach the halfway point ($8,250) by the end of September, we will post a video update to the site featuring Kent and Rich performing their Lance and Bill stripper-cop routine. This will be both a preview of that scene in the actual film, and a complete record of what you'll probably only see bits of in the final cut. (And no, I don't mean "man bits," I just mean a few sections of the dance...) All the other backer rewards are still in play, of course...
Anyway, we've still a long way to go to halfway! We need your help spreading the word via postings, linking, emails, calls, and, of course, actual face-to-face interaction with other human beings. There's also no better time than now to pledge your support...remember your card is only charged IF we reach our goal, and it is ONLY charged at the conclusion of the campaign, October 9th.
Sincere thanks to all those who've pledged, and please continue to send questions and requests our way.
Cheers,
Scott, Katie, Kent & Rich
Update #3: Labor Day Update
Greetings, World Wide Web! Our project was mentioned in a Reuters article that has been picked up in some unexpected places over the weekend...Calgary, Canada, Taipei, and Egypt to name a few. So we've been thinking globally, and wanted to post this off-the-cuff video update for you. Enjoy, and thanks in advance for your pledges.
Update #2: Ask Us Questions!
Hello, world. Slowly but surely we're inching toward our goal. Being genre filmmakers, we understand the necessity for drama...so with 35 days left I suppose it would be boring if we had almost reached our goal. However, if you haven't yet pledged your support (or sufficiently annoyed all of your friends to pledge their support...) please help us move this project along now. And to our intrepid band of early supporters, THANK YOU, and may the Seven African Powers smile on you.
One thing that a few people have wondered: What's going on with production while you raise money? Well, we're in a good place. Our screenplay is completed; ask us and we'll share a few pages! We also have key crew members lined up, like our cinematographer, designers, special effects experts, stunt coordinator, and so on. We've got a great place to shoot, and we're starting to work out the details of some awesome gory moments. (One early tidbit: We hope to use something called a "Guacamole Gun." It won't actually use guacamole, but it will be gooey for sure.) If the Kickstarter pledge starts to look really good in a couple of weeks, we hope to set a shoot date as soon as possible; but in any case, we'll be ready to shoot within several weeks of reaching our goal, which means you should be seeing ALWAYS A BRIDESMAID in film festivals by the beginning of 2010.
One thing we're excited about is the opportunity to engage with you guys...this is just a reminder that we'd love to hear from you with questions about the project, questions about us, general queries and challenges. So far, only a few things have come over the transom, so, you know..."the phone lines are open" as they used to say on the radio. (Radio...remember that? Anyway...)
Thanks for your support, and please keep spreading the word about ALWAYS A BRIDESMAID. Enjoy your weekend.

Charred Oak team; what led you to this particular genre and screenplay?

Hi, Mom! (Literally, this is a response to my Mom.) Well, we love horror movies. The idea for this movie came about over breakfast, during one of our regular early-morning meetings over coffee, bacon, and eggs. We were talking about the run of 80s slasher movies that basically tread that subgenre through various high-concept scenarios...cheerleader squads, sorority houses, divorces, beach parties, Christmas, etc. We thought that the bachelorette party, with its one-of-a-kind "let loose" mentality and its thinly veiled petty jealousies and minor interpersonal dramas, would make an excellent setting for a hyper-violent horror comedy. It all spilled out from there!

Update #1: Spread the Love, Spread the Word!
Greetings, everyone. Thanks to our wonderful backers so far. Just a reminder that equally as important as your actual pledge is helping us spread the word about this project. Please link to the page on your websites and blogs, Tweet about us, post to Facebook, and plain, old-fashioned conversation about what we're doing is wonderful as well. In order to succeed in making our crazy, over-the-top horror comedy, we need to reach people outside of our personal networks. And therefore we need your help!
Stand by for more updates in the coming days, and thanks.
