Hello. I'm Charles Cain.
I need to make a record. This is a timeline:
2009 - Graduated High School
2010 - Released 'Television Tubes VI/IV' with previous band Bugs As Trees, Attended the Chicago College of Performing Arts for one semester as a Jazz Studies Major. Ran out of money and moved 500 miles away to Nashville, TN from my hometown of Elburn, IL (pop. 5278)
2011 - Write an endless amount of material and put it all on the shelf due to the lack of funding

Over the past 9 months of my residency in Nashville, TN, I have written the equivalent of approximately 3 full-length LP's and about 3 or 4 EP's, all written in writing-binges as sets, rather than miscellaneous tunes and scraps. One of these groupings of songs is a record entitled 'Civil Ghost'.
This being my debut solo record, I made sure that these 9 songs felt right to me as a starting point. I feel something so much larger than myself pushing me towards making this record, right now, at this juncture in time.
I fear that if it gets brushed to the side, as all of the projects before it, it will become another basket of wasted/out-dated material. All because I didn't have the money to make something of the quality and magnitude that my favorite people (my fans, family, and friends) deserve from me for being so supportive and loving over the years.
What I want to make clear is this: I want to make something people can enjoy and hold on to. I feel the best way to do that is to include everyone in the process and give back as much as possible.
The rewards I'm offering reflect that purpose. Most of you will be opting for the album-only choices, and they are fine choices indeed! But some of you will be able to pledge more and support the ideal of what I'm doing with my music. For those of you eying the more expensive rewards and wondering why, it's about investing in arts. If we can shoot past the goal with this type of generosity, the music will keep spilling forth.
Music is the closest thing to my heart but I'm getting a bit tired of keeping all of that love and intense passion to myself. I want to put it in a giant bucket and pour it all over the whole lot of you.

Well, if all goes as planned, I feel, with infallible confidence, that this will be a great record. As far as whether or not these songs will be pretentious, artsy, and melodramatic, all I can say is that I don't have enough money to see a therapist, so that may or may not become the job of the listener. (Kidding, of course. Sort of, not really)

Well, making a record is a relatively complex process and it includes many adventures with lots of professional folks that put the bread on the table by doing things like engineering, assisting during the recording session, playing the instruments that I cannot play proficiently myself, mastering the record, and printing and manufacturing the hard copies of the record. So, to be straightforward, your money is going towards the engineering, studio time, mastering, and manufacturing of our little record.

Well, I'll save you the time reading Kickstarter's FAQ page by telling you that if the 3500 dollar goal is not reached by the end of the FUNding period, we won't receive a single cent to make this record and all of the money pledged will be returned in full.
