Charismatic Leader Films presents a futuristic love story starring Greta Wilson & Cherilynn Brooks. Directed by Dave Miller & filmed in 35mm Panavision by Derick Avitt.

In the future, a "relationship representative" named Lucky saves prospective couples the time and drudgery of courtship by professionally standing in for one party and evaluating the level of likely interest on behalf of her client. She finds herself in an unusual predicament and a role for which she never rehearsed, when she is assigned to meet Lena Nigari, a young woman doing something unheard of — going on a date herself.

After producers David Miller and Derick Avitt completed their short film Pickup, they sat down to brainstorm their next project. Pizza was eaten, beer was sipped – well, beer was gulped – and by the end of the meeting, we’d begun working on Love in the year 2000. 

We wanted our film to be ambitious, epic even, but wanted to keep the budget within reason (it’s a short, after all). Pragmatism met creativity, and we formed the idea of a science fiction film without special effects. Things being as they are, Love in the year 2000 has special effects, but not many. In the future there will be many people living in poverty who will never warm under a rocket ship’s glow, and we wanted to tell their story. 

Production took place in 2011 with support from Panavision's New Filmmaker Equipment Program, which provided $75,000 in in-kind 35mm film camera equipment. We have also received funding from 4Culture and more than $10,000 in tax-deductible pledges and donations made through our fiscal Sponsor, Northwest Film Forum.

Five years in the making, we're almost finished L2k. 

The $10,000 we're Kickstarting for is to complete post-production of Love in the year 2000. Funds will be used to pay for the final edit, sound design by Vincent Gates, composition and recording of Marcus Oldham's score, and 2k HD transfer and color correction by John Davidson Color.

But of course, that's not all we need. It is the amount we are courageous enough to ask for on Kickstarter. Film is expensive, and if our public overwhelms us with generosity, we definitely have ways to spend the money.

If we raise $20,000: We can produce the final 35mm release print (two of them, actually), including digital conforming, optical 5.1 sound track and film-out to an answer print.You'll pay for the last step to bring Love in the year 2000 to its viewing audience in all its 35mm glory.

If we raise $30,000: We will double our festival submission and marketing budget, pay off production debt and host a 35mm screening (hopefully at the Cinerama). 

We really want to screen this at the Cinerama.

THE TALENT

In addition to the prodigiously gifted Dave and Derick, there is a stunning array of talent involved in creating L2k, include stars Greta Wilson and Cherilynn Brooks, Gaffer Shawn Anderson, Sound Recorder Michael Kleven, Production Designer Regan MacStravic, Costume Designer Julia Evanovitch, co-writer and Production Artist David Drake, Production Artist Robert Rini, Sound Designer Vincent Gates, Composer Marcus Oldham and Colorist John Davidson, plus an array of volunteers whose names can be read in full on L2k's web page.

INCENTIVES

Props, t-shirts, prints, and stickers will be delivered by Summer 2012. The delivery date of December 2012 is for DVDs. If we make enough for a Cinerama screening, the date is obviously TBD.
