Welcome to the Cartoon Universe. 'The Characternity' is my drawing of over 2,500 characters from cartoons, comic books, video games and visual pop culture at large. I completed the initial drawing from February to June this year and am in the process of coloring and mastering the piece digitally. I am so excited to be completing a successful Kickstarter campaign whereby I am delivering prints to backers and taking suggestions for more characters to add. Backers have been writing in with great ideas that are being taken to heart and vigorously noted.

Background: From a very early age, I wanted to bring characters from unrelated stories together. In the past five years my work has returned to a desire to create fantastic landscapes where characters from our most beloved stories coexist, compete and collaborate.

The Characternity will complete a trilogy of encyclopedic Cartoon Pictures. I have approached this concept in previous works, the Comicosm (2009) and the Cartoonuum (2011). I completed these first two in my traditional medium of paint, but have found that the concept called for a practice more innate to the subject. I have put aside my brushes in service the original idea.
The current incarnation began as a three by six foot line drawing created from a collection of over 2,900 source images that I have culled over the past half decade. The source material includes suggestions made by Kickstarter backers, passersby at San Diego Comic-Con, friends, family, fans and a committed body of personal research.

Response has been amazing. Amongst others, Laughing Squid wrote about the project and the Disney Imagineers tweeted about it! [Adult Swim] even bumped the project during Robot Chicken's DC Comics Special!
Thanks for looking and please take a second to check out the backer rewards. I have included prints of the complete image at a wide variety of sizes - from postcard to 60" wide. Please consider suggesting a character, sharing the project or reserving your copy of the print.
Thanks you so much.

FAQ
-
He's in there... but you're on your own for that one.
-
Yes there are. While not entirely intentional... some characters snuck in there more than once. The repeats do not count toward my 2,500 character count. I have included the 'Duplicator' from Calvin and Hobbes to sooth my inner continuity-fiend.
-
Of course! Add $5 on $25 and $50, $15 on $250 and $45 on anything higher.
