The second edition of the award winning RPG brings easy to play rules, stunning art and magical mischief to players of all ages.

Level 2: the Road to 4K

Thank you for helping us reach our goal. You've allowed us to make this one of a kind project better... now lets take it to the next level.

Witch Girls: BOS isn't just about us printing a book, it's about bringing table top RPGs to a new and overlooked demographic. Part of your future funding will go towards printing Quick-Character Creation guides to give away for free organizations for girls and schools to help introduce kids to Role playing games and the world of witch girls adventures as well as a larger print run.

Beyond  4k

Beyond or Level 2 (4k) lies a a world of limitless potential including  a box edition, hard cover deluxe edition, and so much more.

Witch Girls Adventures started it all. Well actually my niece did. See, I was a lowly RPG writer/designer with one game under my belt (Nemesis: a perfect world).  When I realized, my niece (then 9) had no idea what a tabletop RPG was.  As far as she knew, Rpgs were games on computers, and cost about 40 dollars a pop for a limited amount of play time.

I wanted to introduce her to the hobby I loved, but there was literally nothing out there for girls like her.  So I decided  I was going to do something totally out of the box, write a table top RPG for kids (specifically) girls her age. And Witch Girls Adventures was born.  The first table top RPG marketed to girls ages 11-16. In fact we didn’t even call it a Role-playing Game but rather a “Drama Diaries Game”.  An idea cooked up by my awesome editor Emily Foster.

And Witch Girls Adventures did the impossible. It brought new players to role-playing games, it helped old-school gamer parents introduce tabletop role-playing to their kids and it destroyed many of the stereotypes about who can and would play Rpgs… excuse me “Drama Dice Games.  But don’t just take my word for it, check out some of our reviews.

So what’s Witch Girls: Book of Shadows about?  In Witch Girls Adventures you played a young witch-girl learning about magic and having adventures in the human (mundane) world or in the Magical world.  You could go to a magical school (there are many including four in the united states) ,  learn spells, deal with the typical ups and downs of being a young girl and battle monsters  using our easy and fun rules. Yes, boys could play and there were even optional wizard rules.

In Witch Girls: Book of Shadows we expand on our world allowing players (We call them Stars) to play the following:

  • Witch: Spell casting girls (Optional wizard rules are still available)
  • Fae: The mischievous elves and fairies of legend.
  • Immortal: The rough and tumble male counter parts of witches and the decedents of the gods of old.
  • Mortal: A human ally of the supernatural with helpful skills and awesome instincts.
  • Shapeshifter: Creatures that can alter their shape to that of  human, animal and something in between
  • Vampires: Immortal creatures of  shadow known for their arrogance.

We increased customization while holding on to same original fast and simple rules of play.  Also unlike other RPG books we believe in one book gaming. In other words ,  The book covers character generation, rules, world, setting and monsters. Yes there will be supplements but those supplements will be optional and take the form of a quarterly magazine.

Unlike Witch Girls Adventures, Witch Girls: Book of Shadows will be in full color and like the original include a introduction comic.

The money you donate will go towards two things:

  • Printing cost for a full color book: Like the original that would include a comic book style intro but instead of being ten pages,  it’ll be 22 pages.  The book itself will sell for $20.99 a good buy when compared to video games, and unlike most RPGs, you'll have everything in one book, character generation, rules, world, monsters, and setting.
  • A full color book needs full color art and your money will go towards paying artists to do just that and as you see. As you see we have some great artist!

What's in it for you?

We’re offering a lot of cool swag, such as special "Sponsor Editions" of the game books (see updates) if you help us out. If we beat our goal, we have a few ideas for not only expanding our book, but also expanding our incentives.   And while you’re thinking about whether you should donate to us, remember this, the only way a hobby we love so much will survive this century is if we get new people involved in it. Witch Girl Adventures did just that and so will Witch Girls; Book of Shadows.

FAQ

  • Role-playing for fun, family and “edutainment”

Role-playing has been used by psychiatrists for therapy and examination for quite sometime. Recreational playing of Role-playing Games can be therapeutic, as well. It allows children (and adults) to have a safe and sane expression of fantasy ideas, to explore human interaction and empathy and even to get out a little aggression in a harmless way. In Role-playing games, players can pretend (and learn about the consequences of their actions) without causing any real harm. In a Witch Girls Adventure game, for example, it is perfectly okay to turn an annoying person into a frog or pop them into the middle of the ocean – but you may get grounded to your room or extra homework because of it!

Parents and educators who use this game along with young people will find by getting to know that child’s fantasy ideal self (Star), they actually gain additional insight into the child’s real-life thoughts, needs and desires.

Role-playing also can give young players experience with empowerment and self-confidence. In the real world, kids are under a lot of stress and often feel helpless. But in Witch Girls Adventures, they have access to powers and abilities that put them in charge – and they may discover that it’s their wits, their intelligence and their friendships that are truly powerful.

     Reading and Organizational Skills

Whether as a Director or Star, players can learn new words, helping them increase their vocabulary through the playing Role-playing Games. Words like “Cryptozoology”, “mystic”, “transformation” and ”Alchemy” are just a few example of the challenging and fantastic words (with real world definitions) that players can discover while playing Witch Girls Adventures.

As Directors, young people learn to plan games and plots, to deal with schedules and to research information for their game. They are in charge of making sure everyone has a good time and their organizational skills will grow as they work to make this happen.

Role-playing can also be part of an  English as a second language curriculum giving the student a chance to practice conversational English and word usage,.

     Mathematics Skills

While both sexes can play Witch Girls Adventures, its subject matter is especially suited for pre-teen and teen girls. Studies show that girls’ average scores in math and science are often lower than those of boys of the same age. Table-top Role-playing Games encourage practicing math skills in a fun way. By adding dice rolls, subtracting character points and keeping track of various scores, players are consistently tinkering with basic math skills. Girls can develop skill and proficiency in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division through regular role-playing in games like Witch Girls Adventures. Witch Girls  Adventures makes math fun and useful in a way the real world rarely offers.

     Social Skills

The social pressure felt by kids - especially teen and pre-teen girls - is enormous. Many come to believe that it is better to become part of the crowd than to become yourself. Witch Girls Adventures teaches players that it is good to be an individual and it is great to like who you are. Diversity is embraced in the game and uniqueness is almost a must.

The game is also a useful tool in helping young players learn communication skills. You can’t roleplay without talking!  Games like this encourage shy players to learn to express themselves, and help teach overly-expressive players to let others communicate. Group building and team work are also emphasized.

If you have questions about educational uses of the game or you are using it as an educational tool and would like official support from Channel M, please contact us at education@channelmlive.com.

  • What is a Table-top Role-playing Game (RPG)?

A Table-top RPG is a unique kind of game that requires no boards or cards and no video game system or computer.

In fact, all you need is a pencil, paper, dice, the Role-playing Game Rulebook (and any supplements you choose to buy) and your imagination. Think of it as “playing pretend,” only with rules. We provide you with the world and some simple guidelines. You, as the player, and the person running the game (we call them the Director) tell a story in that world, with characters (we call them Stars) that you design from scratch.

There are no time limits, no scores, no winning or losing - just lots of fun and imagination.

What is a Role-playing Game Rulebook?

A Role-playing Game Rulebook is a book which contains rules for a Table-top RPG. Our basic Role-playing Rulebook is called Witch Girls: Book of Shadows. It’s the only book you will need to learn how to play this game, although more Role-playing Game Rulebooks (called Supplements) will be available later with lots of interesting adventures, alternate rules and fun game options.

What age group is this game designed for?

Witch Girls is designed for ages 11 and up.

What kind of dice do I need?

What most folks think of as dice come with six sides. To play Witch Girls: Book of Shadows, you will need a full set of polyhedral (multi-sided) dice. This includes at least one of each of the following:  4-sided, 6-sided, 8-sided, 10-sided and 12-sided. You can buy them at hobby stores, game stores and geeky places like comic book stores.

    What  does the Director do?

The Director runs the game. They play the part of the Cast (everyone in the game world other than the Stars), decide the basic plot of the Episode (game session) and are in charge of the story that stretches from Episode to Episode (the Series). The Director is very important and should be imaginative, fair minded and understanding. It is important that the Director knows and understands the rules, so they should read the whole Rulebook.

Keep in mind that it’s okay to switch out Directors from time to time. This gives everyone a chance to be a Star, as well as to control the basic direction of the game by running the Series.

    Why are there no wizards?

Most witches in our game are girls (although you can play a boy witch if you’d like!) If you want to play a game with wizards, muggles,  dark masters of magic and mystical schools in England using these rules, you certainly can. Witch Girls : Book of Shadows is a very flexible game, so while there are no wizards in the rules as we’ve written them, in your game you can add them if you please.

Do this book and site promote witchcraft?

No. This book is a work of entertainment-based fiction. It promotes no particular real world religion or belief system, at all. It’s all make-believe and designed for fun and entertainment only.
