Hell Comes With What?

Hell Comes with Wood Paneled Doors is a humorous coming-of-age story about a family traveling cross country in a possessed station wagon. (Yes, you read that right!) Told from the point of view of 13-year-old Michael O'Brien, it's kind of like National Lampoon's Vacation meets Stephen King's Christine with a little bit of the old TV show, The Wonder Years, thrown in for good measure.

You Say It's a Relaunch?

Yes, a relaunch. I released Hell Comes with Wood Paneled Doors to little fanfare as an experiment to familiarize myself with formatting an e-book. Since that time, I've learned more about formatting.

People who've read Hell Comes with Wood Paneled Doors have loved it. The relaunched e-book will have a different cover and bonus material in the back...kind of like the e-book version of a DVD's extra features. I want to give something back to the handful of people who've read Hell Comes with Wood Paneled Doors, and ensure the relaunched e-book is the best it can be.

What Kinds of Goodies?

In addition to the relaunched e-book, I want to share some original stories in a nifty way: through postcards. Depending on the reward you choose, you can receive handwritten postcards from characters in the story, or vintage postcards written as though they were sent back in the day. I may even throw in some poetry by Bigfoot on postcards from the Pacific Northwest.

It's also your chance to have handwritten pages from Michael's dream journal. Michael has a prophetic dream early in the novel, but he kept a lot of his dreams to himself. (My penmanship hasn't improved since I was 13, so it really will be like receiving pages directly from Michael.) Gimme Some Credentials!

All sounds good, but you may be wondering what qualifies me to tell this story. Aside from being stuck in the backseat of a Ford Gran Torino on road trips with a cruel big sister and older step brother when I was younger, I've done some travel writing with an emphasis on road trips and roadside attractions. Hell Comes with Wood Paneled Doors is not without its credentials, either. The outline for the novel was a screenplay that advanced in the Austin Film Festival's "Heart of the Screenplay" contest, and received production consideration by a couple major studios. (A studio going through major changes and budget considerations were potholes in the road taking out the tires on that trip.)
