About this project

Update: All backers in the Kids on the Street: Season 2 will have access through Kickstarter updates to advance streams of new shorts intended for release on YouTube!

The Kids on the Street launched in the iRiffs store in October of 2010 with a one-person mp3 riff of "Time Out for Ginger," syncing with the Alpha Video DVD release, Lost TV Comedy.

From then on, the Kids have released five shorts (including the Creative Commons-Licensed and free-to-view-and-download riff of Arthur H. Smith's "The Mirror") and five features (including a riff of 2005's silent The Call of Cthulhu). In that time, we've added to our writing team and picked up a few more riffers - most recently adding Kristy Beidleman to our ranks. And with the upcoming release of The Violent Years, we're about to call a close to our first season.

Riffs appear as either video-on-demand products (with the riffing included with the video, usually for shorts) or as mp3's that sync with DVDs and Blu-Rays that you beg, borrow, buy, or steal (please do not steal - the Kids on the Street do not officially endorse theft).

So far, every riff we've recorded has been recorded around a single microphone. It's served us well, but it is a single microphone, and we typically have three riffers at a time dancing around it.

For season two, we have a simple wish list - we'd like to have more than one microphone. We've estimated our equipment upgrade, and it comes to around $500.

The equipment upgrade means each riffer gets their own microphone, and with it their own audio levels and tweaks.

What's coming next?

Season Two opens with a viewer-selected riff, Ghost Rider: The Extended Cut. Over twelve months starting February 2012, we'll be releasing twelve riffs - 7 features and 5 shorts. Our first three planned releases are

  • Ghost Rider: The Extended Cut
  • "Ghost Rider" (Bus safety short, VOD product)
  • Captain America (1990, starring Matt Salinger)

Also tentatively planned are The Wild Hunt, Atlas Shrugged Pt. 1, and Captain America: The First Avenger (These titles subject to change).

And Glen is also really, really hoping to have to record a lot of names for a YouTube video.

How can I help?

Speaking of which, you can stop by our Facebook page and Like us and help us spread the word about indie movie humor.
