      @DoughnutDoney you really should consider using the private KS forums that Colin mentioned if you wanna try the beta in-depth. But just to answer your question (I do believe it's explained in the instructions, too, that were linked in one of the previous updates) you need to purchase Antimatter in the "Stock Market." and then go to the "Docking Bay" and load it onto your ship.

      Beta looks very good even though I seem to not be able to buy any fuel so stuck in one system. Ended up being a pirate and shooting some asteroids. Love the soundtrack...for the first beta this looks pretty good :)

      Bad news: The beta is not quite ready, but it is close! This is getting to be ridiculous, I know! But! Good news: There is much light at the end of the tunnel and an update being posted when I get up tomorrow after being up way too late tonight working on things :) I'd post the update now but I'm sure something would go horrifically wrong while I was asleep and that would be just be needlessly embarrassing after all this...

The recent dev blog was really interesting to me (nice to see other coders among the backers... that guy Robert, who commented on it, had a nice insight).       Getting closer to the first early build! Sorry for the agonizing wait, believe me I want this out and done more than anyone else but I don't want to release something that's not fun to play or deeply broken. That said I want to assure you that I'm working steadily towards completing the game and there is no risk of it not being completed, just later than I had hoped and that annoys the hell out of me but there's not much I can do but offer my sincere apologies and continue moving forward.

      Right now I'm shooting to have the game "Sandbox Complete" by the end of March at the latest. "Sandbox Complete" meaning "fully playable except the non-procedural scripted story missions". That said, early beta backers will have access in the next week or two (hold my feet to the fire on this one, January 18th or earlier!) and all backers will have access around then. As for the story missions, I'm still working on fleshing out the story arc but I don't want the game as a whole to suffer additional delays because of it (not cutting it, I just don't want to rush it).

      @Stephen Yep! As I was just saying in the comments on the last update, I'm currently working on the ship customization system, which will deeply impact how the game is played so I'm trying to not screw it up :) I think that's probably what I'm going to talk about in the next update and I should have an early build for beta-level backers by then as well!

      just saw the newest video, it seems every game starting out uses that pew/pew sound for light lasers doesn't it?There was obvious signs that there is no assisted targeting, since there were a lot of wild shots out there, hehe. Even the missiles hit more asteroids than ships, but ti looked fun. I personally wouldn't have left the area without picking up some weapons or equipment dropped from the pirate ships, with so much floating, there ahd to be something good, looks decent though.Here's a hint I thought of..from inside a ship, pulse lasers would have an electronic sound maybe like...zizzle.....zap...but not too loud, you'll only here the vibration on the hull, and what little sound gets made inside the cockpit, if it has an atmosphere.

      @charnode Things are coming along decently on all fronts, no major bad news to report :) Posters are going out now, about 150 so far.       @Colin: Well, "soon" is relative. When dealing with serious illness, time compresses. I get that, and believe it or not, I've been there (in fact, I'm going to be active in "part one" of a good friend's cancer benefit event next week, and again for "part two" of the event the week after). Reading back over my message again, it's clear that I left out an important detail. Specifically, I meant to request such insight and involvement *after* you and yours are fit to pick "life" back up again. I'm not a demanding person, and I apologize if you felt pressured.

      @S.D. Giving insight into the development process has been my plan all along but it went off the rails just a little bit :) Transparency is essential for something like this, and it feels like I should be able to start posting regular progress updates soon!

      @John: Also, remember that we overfunded this project by 60%, and have, as such, increased the scope of the game through a stretch goal. Colin must co-ordinate UI design/development with Steve, and as such there will be a correspondingly greater amount of development time.
      @Colin: Were I to choose between having the game a bit more quickly, or being a bit more "in the loop", I'd choose transparency over early delivery. I'd love a little more insight into the game development process. Also, aside from sad personal challenges, if you come across technical challenges that delay the release, we will have been by your side the whole way, clued in, and unsurprised. Hence, please consider more frequent, but small, development updates (even boring coder-y updates)... personally, I'd love to see you write a piece regarding procedural content generation, which (to my mind) is by far the most interesting technical characteristic of Drifter!
