If you pledged $10 or more to our campaign, you have been emailed your exclusive download code and instructions on how to get your copy, which comes with hi-res files of the CD art and insert, plus a bonus image of the Teresa poster.
Now that the album has been mastered and sent off to the plant we will have this long-awaited and hard-earned sonic gem available in mere days! If you didn't catch TivaTiva when they opened as a duo for Rasputina at Johnny Brenda's on November 30th, you missed one amazing show. Daniel was totally in his element and Darren's incredible drumming was the talk of the evening. It was exciting and powerful, and the audience was screaming for more! Check out amazing some photos from the show taken by Dante Torrieri at blowthescene.com.
If you did miss the duo performance, you can catch another at The North Star Bar next Saturday, the 19th of November. Click here to go to the Facebook event for this show. TivaTiva music and merch will be available for purchase, and Daniel, Darren, Ted and Brendan will be hanging out the whole night so come out have some fun with the band.
AND… Mark your calendars now for TivaTiva's debut full-band performance and CD release party on Saturday, December 17th at Milkboy Philly. Full details to come, but rest assured this is going to be one big party.
On a side note, our website has been redesigned and streamlined with new content being added all the time. If you haven't visited it in a while why not check it out?
Thank you for your continued support. It really means the world to us! Without it none of this would have been possible.
With Love and Thanks,
Daniel, Darren, Ted and Brendan
Update #15: Our motto: Do it right or just don't do it. (We'll go with the former.)
Here is the skinny on where we are with everything at this moment.
The first round of mixes for Music for Interior Castles are done. We are listening to them with a critical ear and will be making a few tweaks, then the album will go off to mastering.
We have pushed the official release date to the 15th of November for the physical disk, but our Kickstarter friends will be getting it before then. The moment we have the album in hand we will hand it (or mail it) to you. And even sooner than that you will have the opportunity to download the album; once again, the moment we have the mastered songs you will have them too.
The hand letter-pressed packaging is currently en route from Portland, Oregon to Philadelphia. We had the packaging made by the amazing folks at Stumptown Printers and we can't wait to see the beautiful end result.
All the incentives are here and ready to ship. The moment we have the CDs they will go out in the mail with them. Daniel's gorgeous hand painted totes are all completely unique works of art. The mini prints are 2-color linoleum block prints, individually signed and numbered. The illustrated and hand-bound TivaTiva Music Book is beautiful and special, and the art folios are a treasure trove of Daniel's lovely work.
We changed (and we believe improved) the design of a couple of the incentives. The new poster art is more dynamic and striking. Our friends at Sire Press here in Philadelphia did the silk screening, and I must say they did a FANTASTIC job. Also, the t-shirts are completely redesigned with a black-on-grey TivaTiva logo surrounded by roses. We felt these were more universally appealing and more closely fit the personality of the band and the music. We hope you are pleased with the changes we made!
Take a look at the photos below to get a peek at all of the incentives.
We have worked countess hours on this project and are very excited for everyone to see the results of our hard work. This has been an amazing experience and we are proud of what we were able to create with your help. We can't wait to share it with you.
Happy Halloween!
Update #14: Sneak preview of two songs!
Update #13: A message from Ted and incentives update
First things first: I know this is very very very last minute, but Daniel has been added to the bill for tonight's Second Saturday show at Cedar Street Studios. If you are a Philly person and are looking for something to do tonight (Saturday, Sept. 10th) come on out to the show! Click here for more info.
As we approach the second week in September, we understand this process is taking waaaaaay longer than anticipated. We want to thank all of you for your patience and your continued support as this album grows and blooms into something more special and grand than any of us could have predicted. The production and recording continue, and we have been working on your incentives as well. Daniel is nearly finished with the art folios and books, and we have the prototype for the tote bag in hand! For those of you set to receive the tote bag: good choice. This puppy is custom made, the perfect size, and has interior pockets! Once Daniel puts his custom painted art on it, Wha-BAM! you've got the best lookin', most unique tote in town. If you are a t-shirt supporter, you will be receiving an email this week so you can let us know what size you would like. As for the posters and prints, Daniel is working on those as this update is being written.
The following is a message from Ted Richardson:
For the first time as producer, writer, arranger, and guitarist for TivaTiva, it has been quite difficult for me to switch between the many hats I wear. You see, we started this album as a stepping stone from the last one. Hymns For A New Age, which was all cello and voice, is a beautiful sounding album. We thought we’d simply try to improve and expound upon the production of that album with this current project. However, things have not gone as we had planned and Music For Interior Castles is now turning into a sonic magnum opus of sorts for the band, like it or not. The stepping stone has turned into a rocket ship.
Now back to my hats and problems. As a producer, I feel that a great song needs to grow naturally, not be forced or boxed in. After all, a song on the radio, or iPod, or online, is a culmination of many creative processes. As an artist, you want people to ‘get it’ the first time they listen to one of your gems. I must say taking off my producer hat and putting on my guitarist hat proved to be puzzling to me; I was stumped as to what to play. The songs, just with drums, cello, and voice, were at a level and feeling I didn’t expect. They were yelling at me to not worry about time and the other projects I have in the studio, and to get it to feel right. Remember, I didn’t play any guitar on the last album, and I have not played as guitarist with TivaTiva for almost a year. Suffice it to say, it took me three arduous days to finally feel that I was part of these songs, and the better part of a week to make real headway with them. I am happy to say most of the guitar parts are done, and in my opinion, are a perfect complement to the existing drum, cello, and vocal parts... and I am quite thrilled.
Pretty soon you will be able to hear a couple of songs from the album, maybe in a week or two. Producer hat back on my head, I believe that you will be pleasantly amazed and will agree with me that it has definitely been worth the wait to get it right.

Wow. I should have had my coffee before attempting to reply to your inquiry, David! Now that my brain is working, let me give you some more detail on what is going on with the album. Since we do not have a dedicated bass player for the band, and with the sonic quality of the recordings being what they are, we have decided to replace the bass parts that I (Ted) laid down with keyboard bass. I have spent the last couple of weeks on this, and we are still set to reach our goal of an downloadable album release for Kickstarter supporters on October 15th, with a physical CD available on October 30th. TivaTiva will be opening for Rasputina on October 30th at Johnny Brenda's here in Philadelphia, and we hope that many of you will be at that show! As soon as a couple of the songs are completed (we have already chosen a few to release to listeners first) you will be the first to hear them.

According to some of my friends, anyone can play bass. If I didn't really like my bass (1990 Carvin 5-string fretless), I'd smack them with it. ;-)
Looking forward to the album!

Cedar Street Studios, founded in 2006 by musician/producer/engineer Ted Richardson (Oh My God, Chiddy Bang, Portugal The Man), is located in the Port Richmond area of Philadelphia, PA. Residing on the third floor of the century old Atlas Building, it was formerly a casket factory, complete with casket conveyor belt and manual elevator still in use today. With it’s lofty ceilings, spacious rooms, and large windows that endlessly invite in natural daylight, Cedar Street offers the artist an opportunity to concentrate on their craft, not their ‘work’. We invite you to come in for a visit any time.
An open format room, the main 2000 square foot studio allows the artist to be in direct contact with the producer and engineer. The diverse selection of instruments, amplification and other gear combine with the amazing natural sound of the room to allow an artist to find the perfect sound for any style. Richardson is at hand, at the board, to offer his assistance to the artist at every step of the creative experience. As a musician and multi-instrumentalist who was mentored under Shelly Yakus (John Lennon, Tom Petty, U2) and Artie Kornfeld (co-creator of Woodstock, Capitol Records, writer, producer), he has the proficiency to understand what the artist is ‘going’ for. With a deep comprehension of voice, guitar, bass, drums, percussion, piano, and electronic instruments, he can help the artist exceed their expectations. Says Yakus, a frequent collaborating engineer and producer…
“Cedar Street provides the perfect opportunity for anyone, regardless of budget, style or other factors, to realize their full potential and create their masterpiece both creatively and sonically”.
Hmm. No news is, well, a complete lack of news, I guess.
Has anyone received anything yet?
Hello! Sorry for the lapse in communication. While most incentives were shipped out weeks ago, there was a delay with sending some of the larger (large poster and CD +) packages due to the fact that we realized as we were packing for shipping that we needed specialized shipping boxes. It took us some time to get them shipped to us, but everything has been sent at this point. You should be receiving your package in a few days via USPS priority mail. We hope your frustrating wait for your goodies doesn't diminish your enjoyment of them.
Thanks again!
