My name is Daniel de Jesús and I am an artist who works within the disciplines of painting and music. For many years I have separated both worlds and have always wanted to have the opportunity to create something that married my two passions into one project; Interior Castles is that project. In the midst of working on our album The Mask, my TivaTiva band mates have been very gracious to shift their attentions and instead focus on Interior Castles so that we may turn what would have been a solo effort into a collaborative project.
Interior Castles is inspired by the life and writings of Saint Teresa of Avila, a Carmelite nun whose great confession “The Life” saved her from the wrath of the church that believed her to be demon possessed. Saint Teresa as a historical subject has given artists over the centuries the opportunity to try to understand the experience of divine intervention and the powers that exist beyond the physical. It is my hope that others will find my work to be a bridge that makes the supernatural experience of Saint Teresa accessible. Her story is remarkable because in 16th century Spain the catholic order ruled every facet of society, yet for Teresa sensuality and spirituality were inextricably linked. It is difficult to see religion as anything good in our time when its institutions are associated with stories of political crime, sexual abuse, and prejudice. Even though Teresa’s story of faith is specifically Christian, her story does not concern the God of Sunday school readings and church sermons but the universal human desire to understand and experience that which is divine. I found when reading her biography a great passion to desire all things that are good and I invite anyone through Interior Castles to follow me on this journey.
I am hoping you will be inspired by our passion for this work and join us in the collaborative effort to bring this project to fruition. We have many unique incentives available to our supporters and I look forward to sharing this work with you, and in turn, the world at large.

Interior Castles is a multimedia project consisting of 25 paintings and digital images by Daniel, a short film directed by Jonathan Centeno, and an album recorded by TivaTiva. The full project will premier in it’s entirety February 2012 at A Seed On Diamond Gallery in Philadelphia, PA. Funds pledged through this campaign will be used to offset the cost of creating the album portion of the project, which will be available as a limited release in July of this year.

You can help Daniel bring this amazing project to life. TivaTiva is currently in the studio producing the album component for Interior Castles, and although we are setting the campaign goal at $6,000, the actual cost of creating and pressing this album will exceed $12,000. It's important to note that Kickstarter gets 5% for making all of this possible, and Amazon also takes an additional 3% to 5%. Also, if our goal is not met by the date set, we receive nothing,so please tell your friends about this amazing project. ADDITIONAL INFO:
Born in Philadelphia on March 7, 1982, as a child Daniel de Jesús had a need to paint and draw in order to visualize his dreams. He carries with him to this day figures that are an extension of that magical surrealism; they are his friends, companions, and iconic symbols of his inner world. Since graduating from University of the Arts in 2004 with a Bachelors degree in Fine Arts and Illustration, Daniel has exhibited in several group and solo shows. Daniel recently resigned as special events coordinator for Taller Puertorriqueño, a non profit arts organization dedicated to the enrichment of the Latino community through the arts and education, in order to devote himself fully to his painting and music. Daniel is an accomplished cellist, composer and singer who currently performs with his own band TivaTiva as well as the legendary alternative cello rock band Rasputina.
The music for Interior Castles will be recorded at Cedar Street Studios in Philadelphia, PA under the direction of Ted Richardson. As a producer and mix engineer, Ted has worked with several well-known studios and hundreds of musical projects, with two of his greatest influences being mentors Shelly Yakus (John Lennon, Tom Petty, U2, Stevie Nicks) and Artie Kornfeld (creator of Woodstock, President Capitol Records).

Cedar Street Studios, founded in 2006 by musician/producer/engineer Ted Richardson (Oh My God, Chiddy Bang, Portugal The Man), is located in the Port Richmond area of Philadelphia, PA. Residing on the third floor of the century old Atlas Building, it was formerly a casket factory, complete with casket conveyor belt and manual elevator still in use today. With it’s lofty ceilings, spacious rooms, and large windows that endlessly invite in natural daylight, Cedar Street offers the artist an opportunity to concentrate on their craft, not their ‘work’. We invite you to come in for a visit any time.
An open format room, the main 2000 square foot studio allows the artist to be in direct contact with the producer and engineer. The diverse selection of instruments, amplification and other gear combine with the amazing natural sound of the room to allow an artist to find the perfect sound for any style. Richardson is at hand, at the board, to offer his assistance to the artist at every step of the creative experience. As a musician and multi-instrumentalist who was mentored under Shelly Yakus (John Lennon, Tom Petty, U2) and Artie Kornfeld (co-creator of Woodstock, Capitol Records, writer, producer), he has the proficiency to understand what the artist is ‘going’ for. With a deep comprehension of voice, guitar, bass, drums, percussion, piano, and electronic instruments, he can help the artist exceed their expectations.
