A no-nonsense guide written by a freelancer for aspiring freelancers ... Because everyone deserves to be their own boss.
I want to make information about freelancing more accessible to the community. In turn, freelancing affords individuals with the ability to manage their time in a way that allows them to be better parents, spouses, friends, and colleagues. The end result … we all enjoy a better life.
What Exactly is the Book About?
In its simplest form “Freelancers Do IT In Their Slippers” is a full course meal of freelance 101. It reviews the idea of freelancing, who is doing it and how it can be done. In addition, this book will feature advice from successful freelancers who will share some of their very one secrets. But that’s not all, we will also talk to individuals and companies who hire freelancers to find out just what it is that they are looking for in a freelancer. We will also review ways to stay organize and on top of your game because being a freelancer often means holding yourself accountable and that is not as easy as it sounds. Last but not least, we will reveal the ideal personality traits of a freelancer, although I do believe in all my heart that anyone who puts their heart and mind to it can pull this off.
So What's the Game Plan?
Now that you have an idea of what we are doing, you are probably wondering what the game plan is. So here it goes. I have compiled the outline for this book project and will soon being collecting data from other freelancers and experts in the industry (now my sweet journalism skills coming into play here) I have excellent resources to draw from and will only include the best in this book.
Once the project is funded I have allotted two months to conduct my interviews, write the book and send it off for editing. Upon its completion, “Freelancers Do IT In Their Slippers” will be available in print via Amazom and digital copies will be available through Kindle and iBooks.
Prior to and after its launch I will heavily market the book as I begin to write my second book “Freelance Writers Do IT on their Back Porch.” This second book will delve deep into the world of freelance writing and provide information specific to freelance writers. More specialized books will follow.
Where Does the Money Go?
You know you want to know ☺ Your pledge will help cover costs associated with editing, printing, design and layout of the book and marketing.
Why Did I Decide to Make the Book
I have spent my fair share of time meeting with friends and colleagues explaining how I thrive as a freelancer. And more than once, I’ve been asked to write a book. The truth is, there is so much more to know about freelancing than what I can’t relay during a lunch meeting over sushi. Nothing pleases me more than to share with others how it is that I do what I do.
Freelancing not only changed my life, but has impacted the lives of my children, family and friends. Being a freelancer affords me the opportunity to stay-at-home with my children, perform my wifely duties to the best of my abilities, and be there for my loved-ones when they need it most. The simple fact that I am a freelancer means that I am a better person and member of society because I am truly in charge of my priorities. Face it, when you work for someone, they believe they own you and treat you accordingly. Are you to be owned? I don’t think so and I want everyone to at least have the knowledge to break the bond of traditional employment.
What Makes This Book Different
Based on my research and own experience, there are not a lot of resources out there that take a candid look at breaking into freelancing. “Freelancers Do IT In Their Slippers” takes a personal approach to becoming a freelancers by offering … Real Stories From Real Freelancers Tips and Tricks of the Trade Personal Advice Legitimate resources to get you started on that first paycheck In other words, I plan on holding the reader's plan as long as possible through the process so he/she is less likely to get lost and more likely to succeed.
Who is the book for?
Who Am I?
I am endearing Idaho girl who grew up wanting to marry a man from my childhood and raise beautiful children. While it took some time and I made my share of mistakes, this dream became true.
I am a graduate of Boise State University where I earned a degree in communication focusing most of my studies on communication theory. In the past I worked my way up at a daily award-winning Oregon newspaper. Prior to my departure to find other projects to conquer I was associate editor at said newspaper. I also have a share of experience in marketing, getting my start with Idaho’s second largest homebuilding prior to the great bust that left me jobless and yet again ready to take on the world. It was at this point in my life that I knew I no longer wanted to be a traditional employee but would rather take the brains the God Lord gave me and make money from home where I could keep a watchful eye over my children and be a good wife … note this is in direct line with my childhood dream.
Today I own and operate NeyComm Marketing. I have been a freelancer for more than 6 years. Essentially my job duties revolve around designing marketing pieces for clients around the world while relaxing in the comfort of my slippers.
What I’ve Been Up To Lately
I’ve been thinking a lot about publishing my own book. This too is another childhood dream of mine. Some might compare this to an item on a bucket list. But I assure you it is very near and dear to my heart. There are several books I wish to publish both non-fiction and fiction. But to get started, I want to write “Freelancers Do IT In There Slippers” to help free other like-minded individuals from the snares of their employers and all other them to flourish in their own element like the rock stars that they are. “Freelancers Do IT In Their Slippers” will be the first of several books in a series that dives into the freelance world and answers the imperative questions freelancers need to know and understand to become successful in their home offices.
