MONEY IS FOR:
- to BUILD 10 giant paintings on canvas supported in the sky totaling over 500 sq. feet. of canvas

- acquire a tract of land in california's central valley nestled between LA and SF. Ultimately, temporarily, opening to the public and/or travel weary drivers on interstate 5.

- set up a MINIMAL, temporary, living scenario for that one year of observations of my own artistic behavior.

WHO & HOW:
I am cat ferraz, a 28 year old artist, who has shown in art galleries in New York, LA, and in between. Wavering between my day job and creative life, ready to consolidate even if it means jumping. THE JOURNEY BEGINS, by absolving myself of modern contextually,and exiting the grid. By stripping away my urban environment and starting alone, I hope to create a new context from which a new aesthetic understanding will spring.

THE IDEA:
In between here and there this project presents a visual recontextualization of meaning. As a grand human endeavor ART EMBODIES THE HUMAN CAPACITY FOR EMPATHY. Juxtaposing modernity with aesthetic pleasure in this form, these 10 giant paintings will become a monument to the immutability of perfection. The empty land is a vast place--not simply between sf and la--but a common social phenomenon, representative of the grand space between any two things and the infinite possibilities. Why not TAKE UP that possibility and challenge ourselves to do something with it.

DIAGRAM OF INSPIRATION:
there is a diagram for inspiration in life, it starts as a picture of a line and we are each a little dot on it. one dot can move forward on this line at different paces but sees only ahead of or behind themselves. Often, you can come across a dot that talks about a belief they have that in all the vast space surrounding their line there are millions of other lines they could be walking on that just seem invisible. And then every once in a while a dot will have that belief so strong that they will jump off of the main line knowing that somewhere on their fall they will land on the more beautiful line that they have imagined. When a dot does this, some of the dots on the original line can now envision a new line between them.--

I see people just ceasing to live, getting comfortable and lazy and it hurts me equally to doing it myself. I want to save myself and all of the people around me from withering. i want to take something i can do and instill the love i have of it in the people around me and show them how to thrive. It is too often that I see people losing their ability to story tell and I think if I show people that a small person like me can do this they will remember that they can too. I don’t know why I am the person to do this but it comes from the same place as knowing that I am capable of it.

WHY ARTISTS DO IT:
Artists make art for the same reason children play with their toys. They don’t play with their toys to make money, kill time or to make people watch – children play with their toys because they are figuring something out in the story of things. Whether a kid plays with blocks and is building a tower as high as he can to see the breaking point at which that tower falls(physics) or a kid plays with dolls and plays out a romantic senario. It’s all playing out relationships to things that have happened or will happen in their lives that they are thinking about visually. Some kids narrate what the toys are doing and some kids can quietly sit there for hours while hundreds of stories are played out in their heads. The most POTENT artists are those who can silence the world around them while they are building.
