About this project
Parallel Play is the second annual exhibition presented by T-Lot, a studio and project space in the St. Claude arts district of New Orleans.
Parallel Play is a reference to a form of play where children play adjacent to each other, but do not try to influence one another's behavior, though it is highly social and contains cooperative interaction.
For the show, the artists of T-Lot will again turn our studio spaces into galleries and invite our peers in the New Orleans art community to present work in our 8000+ square feet of outdoor space. The exhibit will range from works on paper and architectural installations to sculpture and performance, and run as a satellite exhibition of Prospect.2.

About T-Lot
T-Lot was founded in July of 2010 as a studio space for five emerging artists and CATAPULT, which was successfully funded through Kickstarter last year, was the first public event held at the space. In the ten months since that show, T-Lot has hosted community events such as flea markets and movie screenings, as we strive to make our space a resource for not just the art community but the community at large. With a higher profile in the community, we hope to reprise the success of our first show and outdo that energy with our second show, Parallel Play, which will be on the list of satellite spaces for the international art biennial Prospect 2 -- a fifteen-week program of exhibitions, symposiums, and public events taking place October 20th through January 29th that will highlight both the contemporary art scene in the city and internationally. As a satellite space for Prospect. 2, we will be on the official map and a stop on the shuttle that will take viewers to the different satellite spaces.
How to Help
We are ramping up all aspects of our production value from last year and we need to raise money to fund the production of the event. With CATAPULT, we borrowed a lot of equipment for the show, not knowing if we’d have future shows. For Parallel Play, we are looking to invest in equipment for the fall as well as for future shows and community events.
We will put your contribution towards:
- printing costs
- a projector
- projector screen
- audio equipment
- outdoor extension cords
- lighting
- waterproofing vinyl and tarps (for a new annex workspace!)
- an artist dinner
- event refreshments
- and lotsa more
With Parallel Play, we will showcase the creativity of the emerging artist community in a venue where the sky’s the limit, literally; but we need help to make our vision a reality.
