About this project
Hello. I am a 27 year old web developer from Denver, Colorado, and this summer, I will start work on a project that has intrigued me for quite some time.
Denver has one of the largest homeless populations of all the major cities in the United States. Perhaps, this is due to the nature of Denver's giving population or to the scenery that Colorado provides. These are some facts that I wish to discover through individual discussions.
During these conversations, I aspire to take photographs and document each person's story in a book, An Alternate Life, that I will publish using blurb.com.
By contributing to this project, you will be helping with the amount that I will donate to each person in exchange for photographs and a bit of conversation. My hope is that this money will be used to buy a quick meal or two. You will also be contributing to the cost of printing each book. Blurb.com charges $19.95 for a 20-40 page softcover book, and I will begin by purchasing 15 books if this project is successful.
I don't wish to profit from the plight of the homeless or exploit their current state, so a donation will be made to Denver's Road Home organization from the book's proceeds.
My goal is to reach $500 by August 1, 2009. Kickstarter works by delivering the donation only if my goal is reached. Otherwise, your money is returned to you. This helps avoid disappointment by attempting to create my project with a minimum budget. If I raise more money than my goal, I will use it to print more books as well as a larger donation to the homeless organization. Please help by donating! Even a donation of $1 will helps this project. On the right, I have included a list of rewards that you will receive by helping with this project. You can find more about how Kickstarter works by checking out the FAQ.
