Chip is a handsome, analog, recycled clock.

Design Observer - "...an idea worth supporting"

Hello!

We've come to Kickstarter to ask for your help in funding the production of Chip, a handsome, analog, recycled clock. With backgrounds in architecture and mechanical engineering, we love to draw, build, and push materials at every scale. At Capital Craft, our mission is to increase the viability and stature of design in the nation's capital by making products with a purposeful simplicity. With your support, we will be able to secure the materials, machinery, and manpower necessary to get our humble timepiece to you.

Chip's housing is made entirely from recycled chipboard. Tucked away inside is a traditional clock movement, which drives the hour and minute disks. Through several iterations, we've refined our design to reduce complexity and elevate the appearance and performance of a recyclable material. A solid band with precision-cut tabs provides a flush and sturdy mount for the front and back faces while creating visual references to the 3, 6, 9, and 12 positions on the clock. The back face has a built-in battery door and includes a stand for easy setup.

Now Chip is ready to travel. We've worked with a local laser machining center to map out cutting costs for several production levels, and we will hand-assemble each clock with templates and jigs. Although the material cost is relatively low, the clock movement, laser cutting, and jig costs are much higher for small quantities. We need to produce at least 200 clocks to offset the setup costs and reduce sheet changeover time. With your help, we can move forward with our first production run in June and deliver Chip to you by early August.

Thanks for your support,

Matt & Nick
