About this project
Cap Blackard, director and co-host of Nerdy Show and musician Charlie Honderick got together to direct a video for Charlie's song "Keeping Track".
The filming and editing are done (see the above video) - but the video won't be complete without special effects, namely, motion graphics.
The song discusses social networking and to a lesser extent Internet stalking. In the world of the video, social networking is manifested physically - everyone is hooked up to a network of glowing electroluminescent wire. Augmented reality-style 3D text and shapes hover alongside everyone's head and displays social networking stats. The video discusses both the current state of social network clutter, and the actuality that commonplace augmented reality may offer in the near future.
The hard part is done, the video has been filmed and edited, but unfortunately, the motion graphics artist whom we collaborated with before and during production had to drop out of the project due to an unexpected personal tragedy. Our budget accommodated our original collaborator, but his departure has left us at a loss. Motion graphics are a necessity to complete the video's message and concept, and they're quite expensive.
We've spoken with a local motion graphics artist who's interested in giving us a discounted rate, but even that is far steeper than we can currently afford, $1,500. It's not a massive chunk of change, but it's far more than Charlie and I can scrape together at the moment.
Below are mock-ups of what the augmented reality motion graphics will look like in the final video, more can be seen HERE

The social networking and augmented reality topic of the video is timely and relevant to many internet-based subcultures including a general geeky overtone. We're fully prepared to get this video seen via all social networks and our channels through Nerdy Show, Consequence of Sound, and Nerdapalooza as well as their respective sub-channels. We think that the video will have strong appeal with the Grinding and Maker communities and related subcultures.
We're interested in completing funding by May 1st so that the final video will be ready in time for it to be premiered at Nerdapalooza 2010 in front of 1000+ tech-savvy and music-loving attendees. Nerdapalooza is the largest nerd music gathering in the world and is ranked among the top 5 Geek Events by Wired Magazine's blog GeekDad.
Charlie was the lead singer for the prominent Central Floridian rock band, The Most, until the untimely death of their guitarist led to the dissolution of the band. Their album, Mostified is something of a local legend as a secret masterwork. Since then Charlie has been working on solo material, such as "Keeping Track", collaborations with R&B/ hip-hop producer Jay Josh, , his synthpop side project Blueberry 6, and recently formed a new band, Needle in the Hay, in London, England.
