I sent an email to the only emails I've received about shipping so far (Chris Sniezek) -- I had no idea Origins pickup was an option, and would like to get my copy there. I've already paid for shipping, but I'd rather pick up a copy at Origins and get the shipping payment refunded. Can someone contact me?

Matt, I've updated the FAQ on the main page to include an answer to your question about shipping (along with other updates).

      From there:
If you're changing from game store pickup to personal delivery, you will probably need to pay a shipping fee: $3 for Thinker/Rubble, $5 for Wood/Brick/Concrete. Send your payment via PayPal to sales@cambridgegames.com and note your address change.

Otherwise, send your change request either via Kickstarter or via email to kickstarter@cambridgegames.com, and we'll update our records from that.

(Addendum)- My bad-- Not "over a year." It just feels that way. :(

    8. Fb_profile_picture.thumb
      Pete Rockwell on May 10

I'm puzzled, and the updates here and on BGG have done nothing to help, so I'm just going to ask my question (and I apologize if the absurdly long and chatty thread on BGG obscured the answer and defeated my attempt to find it):

I am in Canada. I specified my FLGS and it's my understanding the game is done, printed and being shipped. Is my copy of the game basically going along with whatever order the FLGS has arranged for with the distributor? Or is my copy being sent directly to the FLGS so I can get it ASAP?

Essentially: Is the only difference between me (an early backer) and some retail buyer that you've had my money for over a year and the retail customer is just paying on the spot to get the game at the same time as I do?

I want to get it shipped to my house instead of at the store. How do I make that happen?

I'm leery about the store pick up option because I think there's a real possibility that my copy will end up on the shelf for sale or they're going to expect me to pay for my game at pickup time.

      Thanks.

      Matt

I'm still not clear on coordinating this with a local game store (free shipping). Is CGF going to be taking care of this? Do they still have the info of the game store I submitted? Will they be contacting the game store to make sure that they are OK to receive it. I don't want to be out of the loop on this and just have it show up and be rejected none the wiser.

      For lazy ppl:
      http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/139775/glory-to-rome-black-box-maximum-updates-list

      March 29, 2012:
Ed met with an import/export specialist yesterday. The two of them worked out a more complete and efficient plan for getting the games out of China and into our regional distribution sites.

      April 4, 2012:
We've been struggling to sort the logistics - Ed had originally planned to work 2 days a week on CGF after he got back from Shanghai but got dragged into an emergency project for his day job.
We've now taken on a Blackbox Co-ordinator in Amsterdam: Chinese speaking, with import / export experience who is getting the shipments scheduled.

      April 9, 2012:
Preparations for the Black Box have been moving along quite swiftly at the Cambridge Games Factory-proper in Massachussets. Our assembly and operations team have double-checked the mailing list and promo items, to ensure that when the games arrive. There are still some people that haven't given us an address at all, so emails to those people will be going out shortly.
A lot of work has been done, and is being done, to try to ensure everyone gets the promo items they wanted. We're proud of the quality of the game and promo items, and we want to make sure you get all the great stuff you asked for.

It is not enjoyable having to go to three separate places (BGG thread, updates list and here) just to see if there's any progress. If regular updates were posted on KS, I'd receive them by email, without being expected to do the legwork myself.

Similarly annoying is that despite all the BGG talk, I am none the wiser as to your intentions and beliefs on the central point of when we'll get the game. Please just give a frank and direct account of where you think things stand. Are you shipping from China, assembling orders in the US and then shipping on from the US? Do you expect to ship from China by the end of this month? Is it still entirely up in the air as to when any shipment from China might go out - could it be this month, next month or 2013? How long is the US leg expected to take at this stage?

Sean and Ella - CGF does intend to keep backers updated through KS. We will be posting here, but I won't be posting every-little-thing kind of updates. I have the tricky task of keeping both the "more-info" and the "fewer-emails" groups happy. I'm hoping we can do that with this system. BGG isn't always the best place to spread info, but for the people that are involved, it is easy. Perhaps you could use an RSS reader (google reader, or some other one) to watch this link : http://www.boardgamegeek.com/rss/geeklist/139775. That'll give you the maximum updates, without the need to travel to BGG.

If you need to send an address update, send it to me through the KS message system, even if I don't get back to you right away, I will update your address.

      Thanks

I Second Duncan's Comment. Please only post updates here or also here. BGG is horribly designed and a very trying browsing experience. If I am looking for updates to this project I just want to come here and read it. Simple.

Putting updates on BGG for people who Kickstarted this project seems a bit weird. Not all of us are very active on BGG, so please continue the updates for this here. Additionally, this is taking so long that my shipping info may have changed by the time this ships! Where/how do I send new shipping info?

Good people. I've mentioned this on BGG, and in some personal messages, but missed this place.

We're still working. I haven't put out an updates in the past weeks because of a couple reasons. First, even with all the 'more updates' requests, I'm getting a bunch of 'less updates' requests. I want to make sure I'm giving the right amount, and that's a tricky road to tread.

We don't have much to report at this time. The games are being prepared for their travels across oceans, but they aren't on the ship yet. Also, we had intended to have a bunch of copies come back to the US in suitcases, but no one from the US was able to make it to China (money and time), so those games didn't leave yet. An air shipment of games is happening soon, for the advance orders.

@Bruce - Don't worry about contacting your store. You can if you wish, just to make sure, but we've contacted all the stores, and only had difficulties with one or two.

@Chris - I know I've called InnerSanctum, but I forget who I talked to there. Good to hear from you that they're happy to put the "Friendly" in friendly local game store.

Ed graduated from Cambridge University (UK) in '92 with one of the worst Math degrees of his year after spending far, far too much time unicycling, roleplaying and playing strategic board and card games.

He then spent two years learning how much he didn't know about marketing when he self-published his first game (Kersplatt!) before finally getting a real job working for Staples as part of their UK startup - over the years he has worked in US, Canada, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands and China.

Jeremiah is a gamer who loves to play games; RPGs, boardgames, and a few video games. He is a full-time father of four children young children and is kept pretty busy ensuring that they're safe, fed, and having fun. His favorite games include Diplomacy, Dune, and Werewolf, and you'll find bits of them (negotiation!) in most of his designs.
